Hi all

our august 2004 registered galaxy tdi 115 is in at our nearest main dealers for them to look at the non functioning air con tommorrow(tues).

In the conversation I had with the service manager when booking the car in,he said they would first do a vaccum test on the system to see if there is a leak within the system ,if so then any repairs will be under warranty,if there are no leaks found he then told me that the gas in the air con system only lasts a couple of years and then needs topping up or re gassing (quoted approx

the gas should only need topping up if it had leaked! he is trying it on...

Doesn't some of the gas evaporate overtime ?

It may well need a regas, but if its leaked out that much in a couple of years then there is most likely a leak. Most probably around the condensor. If the vacuum test comes back ok, then a regas should cost no more than Edited by jkspoff

there was a post on here that mentioned about getting a regas done at a farming type garage(damn cant remember the details)but it did seem a lot cheaper

Hope you see this in time: Call their bluff, have them do a vac test. In order to do it they have to suck out all the gas anyway! I doubt they have the kit/incentive to recycle it. Another thing is that a vac test is not the best way to find a leak. Nitro presure test with a dye is better. Good luck

What area are you from ? I know someone who will come to your house and do a full test and re-gas if necessary for about

Well I have to say I'm impressed with the dealer so far,it turns out that the air con system contained enough gas to run the system and after carrying out the neccesary tests our gal's compressor/pump is faulty, now just waiting for the go ahead from ford for the replacement pump on warranty,...fingers crossed....so far so good !!

They'll have no problem replacing the compressor.

During the manufacturer warranty for mine they replaced the condensor and pressure switch.

The reliability of these vehicles is rediculous. I can't wait to get shut !!
