Guest phil.kett Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Hi my 2.3 petrol galaxy 99 on a 'T' has developed windows with a mind of there own. when I left the car parked overnight locked I returned in the morning to find both front electric windows fully down. Since then when you turn off the ignition both windows open after 5 seconds. They will then both shut using the door key. Has anybody any Ideas. The fault was the tailgate central locking switches. col Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 I'm new to this forum (just baught a Galaxy Zetec 1.9 TDi, 'T' 1999 yesterday). This thread is the reason I've joined the forum ! When I unlock the car doors, the front windows go down (and the central locking unlocks the doors). This doesn't feel right ! Is it a known problem? Are Galaxys' known for dodgy electrics? I'm really just looking for some advice before I go back to the garage. Thanks in advance. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Check what Fredt has said - pre-facelifed cars are prone to damp affecting electronics boxes under the front seat. Post-facelifted cars (and maybe pre-facelifted ones too, I'm not sure) have a "global opening and closing" function - if the key is held in the driver's door lock when opening the car, electric windows are opened, and if the key is held when locking the car, the windows will close. If you have a post-facelift car, there may be a problem with the "delay" in activating this global function. Quote
col Posted December 14, 2003 Report Posted December 14, 2003 Thanks for the quick replies.... Is the global opening feature configureable? Is it something the garage should be able to reset - or has something bust? If it is a damp problem - is that something normally covered by warranty? (Duuuhhhh - What's a locking ecu?) Quote
Guest Gooner Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 I had a smiliar experience with my 2001/51 Zetec. I unloaded some stuff from the back then shut the tailgate and went to lock the car using the tailgate lock. I turned the key the wrong way by mistake and must have held it in the "unlock" position for a couple of seconds before I realised. I then turned it the right way to lock/alarm the car and went indoors. What I did not notice was that the front windows had wound down about half way when I initially turned the key the wrong way!!. The next thing I knew was the alarm went off, and I then noticed that the windows were down. Good job the alarm did go off because it was p*ssing down and the interior would have got soaked if I had left the windows open all night!Global opening - what a crap feature! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Global opening - what a crap feature! Can't resist this one:In-car commode - what a crap feature! Quote
seatkid Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 Global opening/closing has always been a feature as far as I recall (both 96 basic and "luxury" 98 Alhambras had it) - not a problem cos u have to hold the key in position for about 3 seconds before it operates. Very handy to close everything (sunroof, rear quarters etc) when locking up, and handy in summer to open up a hot car! Next you'll been moaning about heated seats like Jeremy Clarkson, he couldnt recognise a useful feature even if it hit him between the eyes! Quote
Tigger Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 UUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM Warm BUM cold morning!!!!!!! I can't get the wife to switch it off!! Any ideas? Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Funny how Women seem to get more from the heated seats.... First thing she does when getting in the car.... Bit like her unerring attraction to the bubble pool at the pool.... Quote
seatkid Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 If Ford/SEAT/VW really wanted to sell me a new car, then how about (heated) air conditioned vibro massage seats (as per top of range Mercedes). Also add one of them "Slightest Touch" thingys (search bbc news) and I'd have trouble in getting the wife out of the car I reckon. Quote
