Guest ricky Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Hi, I have just bought a W-reg 1.9Tdi Galaxay Ghia (Mark 1). The electric mirrors didn't work, although the fuse was fine. I got a replacement switch from a breakers which worked both mirrors fine, but for less than 1 minute, until the 10A fuse blew. It shares this with the electric windows. On replacing the fuse, the windows work again, but the mirrors don't, although the mirror switch illuminates OK when the lights are on. I don't particularly want the whole front end of the car replaced by the local Ford dealership. I wondered whether the fuse should be of a higher rating, as my son lowered the electric window as I was moving the mirrors, except that the new switch doesn't work now, as if the internals had suffered some damage. Any ideas? Quote
mumof4 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Welcome ricky.. Have you checked wiring to see if there is a break or a short? Im not sure if a higher fuse rateing is needed.. just had a gander in my manual..it says a 10amp one is the correct fuse rating for the electric mirrors and windows.. Quote

Any ideas? if it shares electrics with windows then I would be looking at the wiring in the door to piller boots - breakdown of insulation here is common and could produce a short to blow the fuse (wires brak as well) costs nothing but some time to check so its worth it - click on the 'read the faq' link in my signature and look down the list there are several posts about these rubber boots. btw - welcome to the site :) Quote
