The Ageless Stranger Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 I know this has probably been asked before, but I have searched on numerous terms for some advice on here before asking. But I am picking up an 04 2.3 Ghia Auto on Friday which has aircon to the rear - My question is this - Is it at all possible to mount a flipdown screen with this dual aircon? I know I've read on here before that there is a problem, but can't find the thread to see if there was a workaround or a solution. I have 4 kids so a headrest screen option is likely to be far more expensive.Cheers for any help or pointers Rob Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 welcome ageless and congrats on your first post after being a member for so long!..there are helpful links at the bottom of your thread....maybe one of these may help? Quote
The Ageless Stranger Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Posted February 21, 2007 Thanks for the nice welcome. I registered after buying a '95 Ghia but had that many problems with it I decided to get shut last week. The problems have all been covered on the forums, but I don't believe that they will all have happened to one vehicle before. The list included Remote central locking fob needing reprogramming - I managed this one  , One of the rear seats not locking in place - sorted by pulling the strapping under the seat out until in position. NONE of the windows opening or closing from the drivers controls and front console. Air con compressor is a scrapper by all accounts, Breaklights constantly blowing fuses - new switch needed. and the final straw last week was when unlocking the car with the 2nd standard key and the lock came out of the door on the end of the key! So after all that, I have decided its time to get rid - dreading dropping it off on Friday to be honest as the garage is bound to feel ripped off when they discover that they cant get in the car without climbing over the passenger seat :P Still, I suppose they should have at least opened the car and looked inside before offering me a grand for it. It was sold to us by Ford Direct at Ashton, and none of these faults were mentioned at the time we bought the car, so what goes around comes around. Anyway, on to the new one. I have looked at those posts before, and have decided that I would go with the 'L' shaped aluminium straps fixed to the roof with either epoxy or silicone with a square of ply fixe to those. This should give me enough to hold the screen up. But I have read somewhere that the Dual Aircon is right in the way for mounting these screens. Can anyone else dig up something on this? Cheers PS - Sorry for the long post, but I'm trying to make up for not posting in almost a year. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 wow..impressive list!!..the lock came out with the key???,,blimey...just dump and run on friday..lol... i cant help with the screen im afraid....... Quote
lazyb5 Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 Hi TASare you sure u have dual ac. All new Galaxys not the new shape have rear heating/ventilation and rear fan. Only a few have dual ac which has a seperate evaporater and things. I have climate control which has a rear temp setting but when a/c is needed it relies on a/c in the front and uses the fan in the back to circulate it. Galaxys like gooners have rear ac and the easiest way to tell is look for the vents in the roof lining. ...OOPs i dont know how to mount a screen either and have rambled on about rear a/c .Have fun with the new car i love mine and keep doing loads of jobs, run on pump is next. The Ageless Stranger Posted February 21, 2007 Author Report Posted February 21, 2007 Hi lazyb5, Not too sure tbh, but there are definitely 3 vents mounted in the headlining behind the driver and passenger seats unfortunately. I just assumed that the ducting to these would cause a problem for the positioning of any roof mounted screen. Cheers Quote

When we had ours fitted it was only supported so that it brought it down far enough so the sunroof would pass above it without catching. There's a linky to pic's of my install in my signature. I know it's a Mk.1 but still wouldn't forsee any problems. Edited February 23, 2007 by BagPuss Quote
The Ageless Stranger Posted February 26, 2007 Author Report Posted February 26, 2007 Cheers BagPuss, I have had a look at your install in the past - it was one of the installs that "talked" me into giving it a go. I'm sure someone mentioned that the roof vents meant that the screen was either positioned too far back so the passengers were likely to get a stiff neck looking at it, or it was too far forward meaning that it interfered with the driver and front passenger? I have ordered a Necvox 9" screen, and a rear mounted DVD/DivX player anyway, (both from eBay) and will see when it all arrives. I might have to go for the headrest option, but they are doughnuts, and I don't fancy the idea of the pre-installed screens as they are only available in the leather look and I have a beige velour seat fabric. Plenty of time to think it over, as the car was supposed to be collected on Friday, only to be told that it couldn't be taxed due to the fact that the previous owner had handed over the wrong V5 document. ;) Looking at a 6 week wait now! We are gutted! Quote
Dally Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I don't think it can be located on the roof in any reasonable place if you have dual aircon. You'll see that the ideal place to locate a screen on the ceiling has the 'hump' that accomodates the rear vents. You will end up with it being too far forward or too far rearwards - that's my opinion from when I had a go. Quote
