with my impending cambelt change, i booked it into the local garage who is a friend of a friend (best type by far) i was asked which engine i had.

the engine code did not point to either 90bhp or 110bhp. as there are two different cam belt kits.

i have been through other posts and thought i had it sussed until i got in touch with the local fraud dealer.to cut it short Frauds have no idea which engine i have. they only said they have on their system 1.9 N mid range diesel.

my docs state 1.9 TDi GLX.

My query is: is it a TDi? am i assuming correctly it is a 90bhp? and what is a N mid range?

new to galaxy and not as knowledgeable as many on here but would like to let the garage have enough info to order the right cam belt.

Cheers for any help, all.

According to a well known Technical Information Service the 110bhp was only fitted after 03/11/97 on vehicles with a build code of VD. The engine code for the 110 is AFN. Upto 15/09/96 the code for the 90 is 1Z and after 16/09/96 the code is AHU. There would originally have been a label on the timing belt cover showing the engine code and serial no. :D Andy.

Further to the above: the VIN no. will show when your Gal was built. The 12th digit will be T for 1996 or V for 1997. The 13th digit will show the month, K for Oct. '97 or D for Nov. '97, the month the 110 was introduced, hence vehicle code VD from my first post. :D Andy.

To avoid any confusion when counting the digits the first one is always an *, this is then followed by 2 letters and 1 no. which, in your case, should be TW2. :P Andy.

Cheers for that Andy

from what you have pointed out then I must have a 90 (AHU). Mine was first reg'd 2/97. the 2 letters then number are WF0 (zero) and twelth is as you said a T but thirteen is a L.

or that is what it looks like to me.

From what you have said your vehicle was made in September 1996 in Germany, which is a bit odd as it is generally thought they were all made in Portugal. Andy.

You can put the travel brochures away!!!! Looking at TIS again the 3 digit code WF0 designates which part of Ford's Global set-up the vehicle was made for, in this case Ford's of Germany. Digit 9 designates which actual factory it was built in.

Digit 9 should be an 'S' for Setubal in Portugal. Andy.
