Just wondering what the connection is between the heated windscreen and the heating for the rear of the car? It's just that if I switch the heated windscreen on, the rear area heating and fan is disabled.

So, is the heat for the rear seating area provided electrically then, rather than using water from the engine?

Would it really make that much differance if the aux heater is at the rear and has to warm water that goes all the way to the front. I presume down the same pipe as the rear heater?

I also would like to know if when putting de mist on on the CC is it always the case that the front screen clear comes on or is it just when its cold?

I dont get my ghia till next week, but it looks like there is less choice of where you direct airflow with the climate control/blower supplied in the ghia than "lowlier" models. Looking at the manual . . .and monitoring the many posts on this site, it looks as though (demisting wise) the ghia system is a downgrade from the others. In fairness, it has the WHOLE car to provide for . . but at least the driver got good all round vision with the non climate control  Perhaps somebody who has upgraded can comment?

One of the problems is getting used to press the right button, you can have as many positions as the knob system just takes time to figure out. From memory the knob system did not allow for every vent to be open at once eg. front window middle and floor although air seemed to creep through all. As I have said I find a sunroof very helful for clearing windows.

I think that the new system is a little distracting when trying to sort it out and drive, but hopefully I will get used to the CC.

The biggest down side is that you have to turn the rear heater off every time you start up, if you don't want it. Before there was a switch and controls in the back to keep off.

It's not that bad at all. I have changed my habits a bit though! In my zetec (and in my wifes car) I used to be extreme - put the heating on full then put it on cold - it was the extremes. However, with the CC, I have learnt to be more patient, but this has rewarded me with having to mess about a lot less!

I really don't find demisting a problem - as along as you leave the ac on!

Its a design compromise, because of electrical constraints, the rear heater blower motor is disabled if the rear heated window is turned on - I think they use a common supply bus.

The rear heater is conventional water heat exchanger, which may be fitted with a booster heater which heats the water by burning fuel.

Tigger - the heated front screen does not always come on when you press the demist button, it depends on the outside temperature I think. With reference to the thread ref front screens sometimes coming on automatically when you start the car, it seems that the same sort of thing happens when selecting demist.

Generally, I leave the Climate Control on auto and only "fiddle" with it to demist the front screen when it's steamed up on the inside when parked with the car empty in these damp weeks that we've had recently. Somehow it's not too good at switching to full fan speed and max heat when the demist button is pressed.

The problem with all CC systems is that they are trying to cope with all conditions for all people.

They take time to adapt and adjust when the controls are constantly being tweaked and this can lead the operator to believe that the system is not working well. A lot of time and testing goes into adjusting the time delays between operator inputs but it will never be as good as the instant response you get from a manual system.

With CC systems relax and take it slow.

The rear heater is in parallel with the front heater circuit.
