Guest bigelvis Posted February 19, 2007 Report Posted February 19, 2007 Can anyone assist in telling me how easy it is to change the water pump as i reckon thats where my leak is coming from, have done one on a laguna before and i would say im a pretty compoetant mech (useless speller though haha) as i served my apprenticeship as a fitter . Mind the engines were rolls royce and about 20ft long with BNFL haha. Thanks guys. Quote
bigdaddy Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 get yourself a haynes manual it explains what is needed to do the job, from what I read its not difficult just awkward and time consuming Quote
Guest bigelvis Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Still waiting for my TIS disc to come from ebay, but as long as its not difficult should be ok, take it one of biggest problems is the room you have available to work in? Quote
Neils TDi again Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 It will not be a problem providing you get the pump version as a front flange and impellor, if they try to sell you the whole housing then the entire timing belt and cover have to be removed. Its the same as the Audi 1.9 and also the VW Golf but as I said make sure its the impellor and flange and not the entire pump housing and its a matter of undoing a few bolts and pipes removing the accesory belt and bobs your aunt. Guest bigelvis Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 (edited) Ok need a bit of help here again guys, have got as far as removing 5 bolts from waterpump, and when i was down there thought i'd check where the leak was definately coming from since i had removed most of the other parts around it, so got on my back and squeezed under the car, (at 19 stone no mean feat with a standard trolley jack haha) and now im well pee'd off.Theres a black plastic pipe coming from engine with water dripping out which has a rubber hose connecting to radiator, 2nd from bottom pipe on rad at left side as you look into engine.Have taken a couple of pics on mobile phone but cant find card reader to transfer onto pc. So my next question is, is this the thermostat housing?Certainly sounds like it according to others posts on here.Have a tis disc but the pics dont look to familiar when im looking at the stat replacement. Any help appreciated folks. Edited February 27, 2007 by bigelvis Quote

Neils TDi again Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Yes it costs about 8 quid and has an o ring seal mine leaked and was the cause of many issues with over heating before it was noticed. Easy fix Slide pliers and a ten mm spanner and about 2 litres of anti freeze. Quote
Guest bigelvis Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Just an update, after taking the thermostat housing off i noticed the leak was still dripping, it was the pipe above the housing that goes into the waterpump, waiting for the vw garage (due to local ford parts guy bein an ar5e) to get it in stock and fit it at weekend hopefully.
