Well car wouldnt start today  so jumped it and left running till i went to halfords and back (10mins), when i came back theres water dripping from the engine, ;) iv had a look and its coming from the left hand side as you look from the top, its not as far over as all the belts etc.

There looks to be a metal pipe that comes from the bottom of engine up round front and over to the right hand side. Checked hoses as far as i can and they dont seem split or anything.

The water isnt coming from cylinder head as its a lot further down, just in front of the sump, can anyone help me out here before her indoors goes mental about my new ebay purchase.

When the engine cool and i put the cap on expansion tank it stops but as soon as its removed it starts to drip (quite fast drip but not quite pour lol)

Thanks guys, its a 1996 tdi 1.9.

Did think water pump but surely thats mounted on left side of engine and not on front?, But still could be, as im not very sure of where stuff located on this car.

Had a look on ebay at waterpumps and it could well be the same shape as the part im reaching onto the top of at this pipe i mentioned.

Seriously thinking of fixing up water leak and putting it back on ebay as i feel it may be the first of a long list of problems due to last owner.

Just need to find out what mpg like on a 2.0 petrol compared with the 1.9td, wont be racing anywhere so speed not a concern, towing my caravan is though.
