Dave-G Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 (edited) Oops - forgot to tell you about the socket for that - a sixteen sided one IIRC. If your old man has a good grip he might be able to shift it. Two handed like - if it wernt fitted too tight in the last service. Dont even think about pipegrips as if they are squeezed too tightly the top will crack... it's rigid plastic. I wouldn't worry about the grip washer found on the tray - we all drop bits sometimes. It was probably dropped during a past service when replacing some component. Never had to remove the skirts to access the front screws - did'nt you get a socket extension like I suggested every man should have? :) Edited February 17, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
scrote Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 When i serviced the bus I removed the oil filter cap using an oil filter strap which is a fabric loop - I wouldnt recommend the chain type as this will also crack the plastic - but the fabric one did the job for me. Quote
Guest bigelvis Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 For taking the old oil filter off i use a thing best described like a tripod, when you rotate socket on back it grips the filter and takes it off, used a chain one years ago but unless you have good access they are pretty useless. mumof4 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Report Posted February 17, 2007 oil filter done..level sensor done..undertray back on..i used brute force to unscrew the cap of the oil filter cannister..i mopped up the spilt oil.. aww crap...just found 2 round seal thingies in the box the filter came on..B***** Quote

buford_t_justice Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 The red Oil warning bulb in the instrument cluster is for oil pressure, not the oil level. The only instrument available to measure oil level on a MK2 Galaxy is the dip-stick. Assuming the oil pressure sender and other various components are working correctly, your engine oil pressure is too low. Don't drive it whatever you do. It could seize !! How much oil came out when you were changing the oil today? Quote

mumof4 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Report Posted February 17, 2007 Its not red..its yellow..and the dipstick is not the only way to measure the level of the oil..there is an oil level sensor. Ive had the oil press warning before..and this time i got the yellow oil level warning....i have changed the oil pressure sender..and now the oil level sensor...i put in just over 4 litres of oil.And the oil is at the correct level half way between min and max....she does not sound rattly and apart fromn this warning she drives fine. when the oil level warning comes on along with the yellow oilcan i do get beeps. I have been driving this car for a week with this warning on..i would think that if she is going to seize it would have done so by now. Quote

littledaz Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 Hi Maz, firstly, your thingy on your undertray. If it is made of rubber and is about an inch thick, it is a protector for your coolant hoses, stops them rubbing together and on engine components. Secondly, your oil level warning. The level sender has 3 wires going to it. Have you got a multimeter? You can check the voltages going to the sender. Silly question, have you checked all your fuses? Quote

littledaz Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 As I said, it is fitted to prevent your coolant pipes rubbing on things. Vital? You probably won't notice any difference, possible coolant leak in the long run though if the pipes rub through. Just checked the wiring diagram. Level sensor fuse is shared by many engine actuators, so don't think its that. You really need to check the voltages at the sensor. As long as you have no oil pressure light on and the engine sounds OK, you should be alright but it should be checked. If you are happy to drive, I can check it at the karting event, if you think it will be OK. Could be a fault with you dash clocks but needs confirming by checking the voltages to the level sensor. The wire that connects to the level sensor is encased in rubber..and it does have a 90 degree kink in it Quote

I've just read a comment on a VW Passat forum about low oil warning and the only way the VW garage could cancel the warning message (after replacing a level sensor) was to disconnect the car battery for the 30 seconds. I agree, sometimes ecus get there "knickers in a twist" and need a reboot, just like a PC. Disconnecting the battery "reboots" your ecus. Leave it disconnected for a couple of minutes. Try it Maz, you've nothing to lose, just make sure you have your radio code to hand, if its a Ford unit. Edited February 17, 2007 by littledaz Quote
