Dave-G Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 (edited) Glen, I Saw and did not fully comprehend all that you were saying about the site changes... I hadn't taken on board the name change - which sux - sorry but thats how I see it Could it also possibly be that the reason this site has become so appallingly slow recently is that more and more forums are coming off one server sort of thingy (Not pc techie enough) which dilutes the Galaxy section - which is where we started out before becoming the ford forum now the uk car forum - what next eurocar forum? The Galaxy forum I joined has paled into insignificance. Edited February 16, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
Gteuk Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Maybe I am doing this to speed up the site, smaller graphics that are shared across the boards, The site is not slowing down because of the multiple sites they have always been there, the site is slowing because the database is huge,,,, no let me re phrase that.... MASSIVE due to the years of posting, also more people are uploading graphics to the site which drain the resources, this server has a 2mb zero contention line to it but the throughput is more at times. I am looking into finding someone to help me with an archive script wich should sort the spead issue out its just a complicated process. The other thing is there are more sections no than there were before but hey, Quote
Gteuk Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I made a slight change so ppl know this is a galaxy site Quote
Dave-G Posted February 16, 2007 Author Report Posted February 16, 2007 (edited) Ah all that techie stuff is lost on me Glen. I'm just concerned that our identity seems to have got diluted over a period of time to the point of being an "also" forum. As an experiment I have googled ford galaxy and still get a result for this site though. I am however becoming concerned - as are others ,that long term and not so long term members have gone AWOL. What - if anything - is driving them away. This forum used to be the font of all knowledge on Galaxy ails. They cant all have sold there Gals and moved on? The word GALAXY has also been relagated to a back seat in that new header. Edited February 16, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
Gteuk Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 What is driving some away is life changes, up until 6 months ago I visited one in a blue moon only to sort out trouble, the fact that it is harder to register, I can make it so everyone on earth registers and you all leave because of spambots posting porn, the picasso site got flooded with it so I tightened up security. Some members had a personality conflict, happens at least once a year on all sites, PPL decide they do not like the slightest changes, and if a change of a graphic is going to upset somebody I am at a loss. the graphics may change, the colours may change, the administration may change, but the people you got to know are the same, the knowledge is the same and the community is the same. I am also at a loss as to why my changes which I have reason to do make it so difficult to like the site,. I only changed the header graphic so far, god knows what happens when a change everything else.... Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I only changed the header graphic so far, god knows what happens when a change everything else.... uh oh another upgrade on the way! who's going to start a book on which feature/buttons goes awol this time http://www.terranuts.com/forums/images/smilies/poke.gif Quote
mumof4 Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Oh my..i love the header..LMAO.... Unofficial Ford GALAXY site & a bunch of other ford models that nobody buys or should admit to it as this is a GALAXY site and all other cars are useless Change is inevitable i am afraid and not everyone will like it but its a fact.As Glen has said..it is the community and the members that make the forum..Just because the dressing changes..does not mean that we do. NikpV Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I don't think the changes are that dramatic - the forum is certainly as lively today as it was in 2003 when I joined - in fact it is much livelier I don't know the exact post counts/day across the years but I think it is greater now - there was little of the banter we get now. Many of the technical questions have had answers and the wealth of knowledge is being used. Some ppl are always upset by change - Gregers and others made this point in live chat the other week as Glen says if peeps are going to be upset by such lttle changes then the forum may be in danger of disappearing - I doubt it will happen. Life changes do play a large part in this - for personal reasons there was a 6 month period when I didn't visit the site (wolfie stop cheering). I'm not sure that we are going though a particularly quiet period, just becausevyou haven't seen a post from some one for a while there are others posing their questions Perhaps we should get rid of the FAQ more questions would the be asked given that the search is difficult to use. mumof4 Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 The FAQS are very useful and to get rid of them would be wrong...you and others who contributed put a lot of work into them.We have had a lot of new peeps join over the last few weeks and as ive said before..some post..some dont. Quote
Gteuk Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 Unofficial Ford GALAXY site & a bunch of other ford models that nobody buys or should admit to it as this is a GALAXY site and all other cars are useless Its quite catchy I thought, should I get rid of that then ???????????/ Quote
mumof4 Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 I think its brilliant. :( :( ..It should stay...i'm surprised no one else commented on it..lmao. Quote
mumof4 Posted February 16, 2007 Report Posted February 16, 2007 You know..Glen does a bloody fantastic job on this site..safeguarding all the info on it..on another site i am a member of it got hacked into and most of the data base was destroyed...we are damn lucky this has not happened to us and it is because of the safeguards we have on this site that it hasnt. The site has grown..yes we have more sections and yes we do have more members...yes there is a turnover and always will be..yes there is a group of us die hards and yes there will be peeps unhappy at the changes...since the changes..how many spam posts have there been???.NONE!!...they get stopped in their tracks. All because of the hard work Glen has put into this site.Yes peeps may leave because of the cosmetic changes which i think is sad..as we the members are still the same.Instead of complaining we should be glad that all the info gathered over the years is safe and that Glen takes a lot of his personal time to help this site keep going and be kept from harm. Dave-G Posted February 17, 2007 Author Report Posted February 17, 2007 Well now that you mention it maz... I haven't seen any spambots etc - yes, well done Glen. Don't mind my moaning - how many 55 year olds don't moan about new "bloody changes" :( As for the FAQ's, they are an invaluable asset to the forum. I hadn't noticed 'the unofficial FORD GALAXY site bit either Thanks... Did I say thanks for that? :( Quote
