Dear members,

At last an update and further thoughts required from the team. Good to hear from you gadgetoid. I should have pointed out that I had a VW Sharan 3 years ago which was my wife`s and 3 years later decided to buy a Galaxy Ghia. Obviously I am prone to the multimedia problems which seem to attract me to these cars. At least now I can update.

First I managed to buy an almost complete set of wires, screens, and the all important visteon module off e-bay. Thought it was worth a shot in case there was a faulty wire. The moduole itself was different inside to the Rev 7.01 from Walz. Plugged in and vcr and remote worked perfectly but no AUX input. Foolishly I did not use the correct input lead from the intended device and should have plugged in the playstation sitting there. Cut a long story short, I spiked the board on the module by accidently putting the video socket into the aux socket on the module. Went back to Walz module and everything operated except for remote to vcr and mono sound in earphone. What next. Stroke of luck, kicked up a fuss with dealer as car out of warranty and he confirmed payment for a new module.

The module arrived yesterday. Installed correctly as per the instrcutions provided on this site. Pressed the remote and the screen options were DVD and AUX. Stereo sound and twin screens working in VCR and AUX mode. Only one thing didn`t work was the remote to the vcr via screens. I wasn`t too worried as you can disconnect rear socket and if you open parcel lid the rmote will activate independently. Job done or so I thought.

Due to the cabling on the back carpet area, I had all the components removed from the console for ease of test and connection. I switched everything off and began the process of disconnecting cables and carefully installing all cables and the modules into the centre console. Wired up exactly the way as first time and pressed the remote.

Screen appear but only AUX is shown on the screen. Everything from the AUX leads work perfectly but no VCR input. Did complete strip down and reconnection with the same results.

Is Gadgetoid correct in that there are 2 types of Visteon module for the Galaxy multimedia systems? Should I just leave the VCR and connect a Visteon DVD into the system? Why doesn`t the brand new modules receive the VCR signal? If I go for a DVD system can anyone remind me if it is a single lead from the dvd to the visteon module or does the single lead split for power? Does anyone have the part number for this lead? I may already have this lead in the small collection of parts but just wish to check? Some good question here and any help would be appreciated.

Because of the frustration I`m delighted that I`ve got the AUX cables fully working as it allows me to work the system as intended. When in front you can`t see what`s happening. Remember once travelling from Halifax to Isle of Bute and kept asking my son if he was enjoying his Postman Pat DVD which he confirmed was good. When we got to Carlisle for a break, I looked in and the screen had been blank all the way from Halifax as I had stopped for fuel and sitched the radio off. Poor kid watched the blank screen and as proud parents of our first adventure with DVD in the back he didn`t want to upset us. Anyway I digress, the AUX leads will allow my wife to control the dvd via a handheld unit. My son is 3 years older now so fully able to work the remote and answer back correctly.

I look forward to your thoughts on the above.

Regards
