Guest warnerj Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Hi, I have the Sat Nav Unit in a 2002 2.3 Ghia Galaxy My Sat Nav has stopped recognising my position. In the menu it says thereare 27 satellites but it's not receiving any. It can read the maps OK fromthe CD and it is detecting movement (the position moves as I drive - but itsnot accurate) so by the time I've driven about 5 miles it's completely off track. I have checked the connections on the back of the unit - nothing seems tohave come out. Could the GPS antenna have stopped working - is itseparately powered or fused? What's the best way of isolating the problemor cause? I have had a hands free mobile kit connected to it as well as a CDAutochanger and also the video input device thing (to enable the multimedia to be seen on the screen). But the Sat Nav worked OK with all of these things connected for a few weeks - it just started going wrong about 3 weeks ago. It is under guaruntee (as part of the car warrantee) - but the local fordgarage has never worked with this unit and has no idea what to do - I havesuggested they get another unit from somewhere so we can see if it's theunit or GPS that's at fault - but they seem reluctant to do that. Would anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks in advance. Quote
johnb80 Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 If it's under warranty and they're a Ford dealer they don't have a choice. They also have the support of Ford technicians at the factory so it's a poor excuse. Either find another Ford dealer or thump the table. Regards - JB Quote
Dally Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Warnerj, I'm sorry that I can't help with your problem though agree wholeheartedly with johnb80 - I am about to add a sony erisson HCB-30 bluetooth car kit with the music mute plus I have been looking for the multimedia attachment so that I can have video on the screen but I am not so sure about whether I should do this now following your problem!! Seriously, I would be grateful if you could let me know where you got the multimedia video input device from and how much it was. Thanks Quote
Guest siroccoman Posted December 10, 2003 Report Posted December 10, 2003 Hi, cant help with your satnav problem, bUT can you tell me how you have routed your DVD output to the fron screen. My useless dealer says it acnnot be done. But then, like your delaer, he has not got a clue about satnav unit as has never (allegedly) sold one with one in before.Dave Quote
Guest siroccoman Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Have you tried the dealer test process:To access the Self-Diagnostic Mode, SWITCH the navigation system display module ON and simultaneously PRESS the 3 and 6 buttons for 2 seconds. Note:The navigation system display module will tune to radio station when a signal is received it will then test each speaker to check their function. The navigation system display module will automatically check the antenna and GPS antenna signal and connection, compact disc (CD) player connection and external phone connection. The status of the checked items will be displayed on the screen. Note:If the navigation system display module shows TESTING, the navigation system is checking the relevant component state. If FOUND is displayed the components are OK and no further action is required.Dave. Quote
Guest warnerj Posted December 12, 2003 Report Posted December 12, 2003 Hi, Regarding the multimedia input device I got it from www.soundlinks.co.uk, they have a list of retailers on their website. Part no. is VAG02VID. I don't have the DVD player - but I have the VHS deck in the boot. I traced the video cables from the deck to the centre console and spliced a composite (yellow) video cable into the 2 video signal cables. I then routed the video cable to the front of the car and connected to the Multimedia input device. I think if you have the DVD it is much easier as you can just connect the phono sockets on the back of the DVD player. I could have done this with the VHS deck but it would have meant using a very long cable from the boot to the front. The satellite was working for a few weeks after I installed the input device - so I would have thought that if that had caused the problem it would have done so at the time I fitted it. However the ford garage has agreed today to look at it - so I am going to remove the input device for now so they don't have an excuse to say the warranty has been invalidated!! Cheers, Jonathan Quote
