mumble_bee Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 I had some trouble a few days back on the 2.3 manual - mark 1, driving along in harpenden as one does .. at saturday village speeds.. I hear weird noises coming from the engine.. its performing fine.. all seems good but the noise is annoying.. so I pulled over and called the AA, they towed me to my mechanic saying I should get him to look at it as he thinks it could be a tensioner or something... got it to my "trusty" mechanic.. he said it was some tensioner that hooks in to the ribbed belt that goes around the alternator.. and other stuff.. like the ac hoodjama... and maybe I heard him say water pump in there as well..anyway I said sort it out please.. he said the parts were only available from the stealers and they cost buxdeluxe.. in the end I paid Quote

mumble_bee Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 hey dave, thanks for that.. I've already had the tensioner changed... mechanic said it was the clutch on the compressor..so its either fix the clutch or new compressor.. wondering about the part numbers and compatibility at present... does anyone know where the part numbers are listed ? cheers Quote
Dave-G Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 (edited) Does the clutch within the A/C pulley move if you try to rotate it when the engine is off? IF yes: Does it rotate when the AC is turned on - and does it stop rotating when the AC is turned off? I'm thinking this sounds familiar - several of us tried several things before Littledaz put us right. Also when the clutch failed on my comp there was no noise... just smoke. mumble_bee Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 hey dave, the pulley thingy ma bob doesnt move at all.. and it appears it is behind there that the noise is coming from. however the good news is that I found an exact replacement from a scrappy for Quote
