Guest jeffrichards1966 Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 After DIY service at 110,000, new oil, oil filter, and gearbox oil change in my 97 zetec 2.0 petrol auto, I have had few problems. (Plugs, air filter done last year with oil etc). Temp guage stays in white, ie below normal, for 15, 20 mins, then zooms up to mid/high end. I dirve in London, mostly slow traffic 40 MPH tops, and car is always heavily loaded. Prob a failing thermostat? Temp sensor? As it stays cold for long, the therm is prob stuck open, cooling water at start up, instead of block heating water then therm opening? All wise words welcome. Gearbox has become less responsive since gear oil changed Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 the auto box might be incorrect fluid level - there is a guide in the FAQs (IIRC) on how to do it (worth a read anyway). "then zooms up to mid/high end"if your engine is overheating then its probably the thermostat that's causing this. a failing temperature sensor tends to fluctuate between cold and normal operating temp. tiny Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 a failing temperature sensor tends to fluctuate between cold and normal operating temp. MJR Nope. Failed senders very often give abnormally high readings once warmed up. Quote
