Paul Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Can anyone tell me how the tailgate apperture dimensions compare between MkII and MKIII Galaxy's. In addition, I undertand that the new MKIII does not have a spare wheel but has a repair kit or runflat tyres as an option. Has any forward thinking company come up with a spare wheel carrier that could bolt on to the taligate? Quote
Dave-G Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 Might strain yerself to raise such a heavy tailgate - and when it falls back on you who you gonna sue? Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 very unlikely! from what I could gather the majority of the external tail gate panelling is of plastic construction ;) plus the fact where would you mount it? a full sized spare would block the rear window, hinder access to the external hatch release handle and would mean that you would have to prop up the rear hatch when you open it if you could? due to the gas struts being unable to take the extra weight! and then why would you want to add the weight of a spare wheel and carrier to what is already a fat bloated vehicle with a reduce load carrying capacity! ;) the run flat tyres are only required if you opt for the tyre pressure monitoring system and then that comes with all the additional extras ESP, TC etc.... they wont sell you it any other way! Paul Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 Sounds like I'll be leaving the Galaxy family when my 52 Gal gets the chop! Quote
muppetdodger Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 I've just come over to the galaxy. I have ordered a new 2l diesel ghia and I must say the spare wheel issue was the one worrying thing for me. But I've decided to give it a go. Never had a serious puncture in 25 years of driving, guess they will all start happening now! Surely ford will have to change this because it must be affecting sales! Quote
muppetdodger Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Also, I was amazed by how light the tailgate was and how high it lifted. Compared to the opposition it was far superior. I must say a lot of people say they dont like the look of the new car, but I dont get that. The new cars shape is really nice compared to the old ones fuddy duddy looks. Also now you know it is a ford whereas before it could have been a seat! Quote

Ivor_E_Tower Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 The new Gal is apparently selling ahead of expectations, and the S-Max even more so! However with no spare wheel/tyre I wouldn't get one even if I had the money. Maybe I've been unlucky but of the several punctures I have had over the past few years, I've really needed a proper wheel/tyre in order to continue driving.....and what happens if one of your tyres gets shredded by debris at 6:00pm on a Saturday? Will be a long wait until 8:30am on Monday to buy another Quote
tim-spam Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 (edited) I just hope VW doesn't make the same mistake with the new Sharan.... ...and what happens if one of your tyres gets shredded by debris at 6:00pm on a Saturday? Will be a long wait until 8:30am on Monday to buy anotherThat's assuming you can get the tyre you want at a price that suits on the Monday. I usually buy my tyres from one of the internet based suppliers - with a proper spare, I would have the time to still do this, and get a matching tyre at a far lower price than having to take what's available locally on the day. katman Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 The new Gal is apparently selling ahead of expectations, and the S-Max even more so! I have only seen one new shape Galaxy so far. Not many round here at the moment. I saw some other people carrier the other day, dont know what make is was but it looked awful. Looked like some had got a hatchback and stuck a dormer window on it !!! Maybe I've been unlucky but of the several punctures I have had over the past few years, I've really needed a proper wheel/tyre in order to continue driving.....and what happens if one of your tyres gets shredded by debris at 6:00pm on a Saturday? malcolm.dobell Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 I think you're referring to a Ssangyong Rodius. When a photo appeared on Top Gear Hammond/May/Clarkson dissolved into uncontrollable laughter! Quote
