rwtomkins Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 There's something I've never really understood about the previous threads discussing whether such-and-such oil is okay for the Gal. Why don't we all just use the Ford product specified in the vehicle handbook? Is it because non-Ford oils are cheaper, or because non-Ford oils are better, or just because it's too inconvenient to get to the dealer? I've got a 1.9TDI and this morning I took it in for its first service. I went round to the parts department and bought 5 litres of Ford Formula SD 5w40, the oil specified in the handbook, and told the service department to use that, not their own stuff. Formula SD is a semi-synthetic designed to meet VW 505.01 spec so it sounds as good as it gets. It cost Quote
Tigger Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 I think you are about right with your last statement! Not to be trusted unless you know them! Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 As long as you use VW505.01 spec oil, then there is no issue with the PD engine. Ford don't make oil. You are buying oil from one of the top refiners, sold in Ford cans. The Ford oil for the Zetec petrol engine is very good. Our Mondeo 2L has had it from new, has done nearly 100k miles in under 4 years, and is in near perfect internal condition, judging by the immaculate state of the camshafts (just changed the timing belt for the first time). So I would personally have no concerns over their branded oil in my diesel. What worried me is the Seat dealers use allsorts of everything.... I have to ask time and time again what they are using.
