LOZ Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 I have posted this once before a few months ago - but I having read other recent postings from people with similar heater problems ( no heat in the car ) and wondered if there was anything else that has gone wrong with theirs at the same time? I have no heat - the blowers are only blowing only cold air in, even when the car is up to temperature. The Air conditioning doesn't work. The air re-circulation blowers don't workThe rear heaters/blowers don't work. And to top it off the part of the panel they're all on doesn't light upwhen the headlights are on.All this seemed to happen all at the same time during the summer !Everything else seems to be working - actually I'm not sure whether I have the `plane coming into land' noise? One chappie advised about VAG COM but I don't know anyone who has one local to me, and I wouldn't know what I was looking at anyway! A local auto electric company will look at it for Quote
NikpV Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 couple of things - matt_jr is in tyour part of the world and for a small consideration he may be able to read your codes for you - try pm'ing him the lack of lights/sounds of blowers may indicate a blown fuse/loose electrical connection which may also render the flaps which divert air around the system u/s On a separate note - how long does it take to get up to temperature on these chilly mornings, if it takes a long time (>15 mins) have a feel(carefully) of the little exhaust pipe for the aux heater to see if it is working. I think you have a couple of problems contributing here Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 hmmm tamworth...i could meet you in Stafford if you like, for a VAGCOM scan. although, have you checked fuses, and has your car ever over-heated when on a long run? can you hear the flaps moving when you change the dials... set the blowers to maximum - you can now hear the air-flow clearly, move the temperature dial and see if you can hear any change in the air-flow,repeat for the directional control, no change = bust/or not working for some reason HVAC unit (blower/flap)no booster - vagcom can tell you that - although its properly the glowplug, have you turned on the rear blowers - by pressing the switch on the dash 1st (its a picture of a galaxy with 3 wavey lines in it) the light - possible blown bulb or wiring problem (which may be why your having problems) VAGCOM might be able to help this aswel. ps, im going stafford soon anyway, so let me know, MJR Quote
Dave-G Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 I had this problem on my last zetec. All those items control switches are in the panel below the radio... Remove that panel and give the wiring loom a good rollicking - chances are you will find a dry joint/bad earth. Quote
smoggy7 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 hi, ok i would check the fuses first as i had this problem with my galaxy, if your switch isnt working on numbers 1-2 which turns the air con on its the resistor on the side of the fan housing about ten min job well thats all it took me it was green on mine but there are other colours, once fitted all numbers and air con works great now common fault on these but best of luck finding it smoggy Quote
LOZ Posted February 7, 2007 Author Report Posted February 7, 2007 Thanks for all your info. You may need to excuse my lack of car mechanic terminollogy and as for taking things apart well I am no DIY mechanic! I did have a look at the fuses - with manual in hand it was the first thing I had a go at. But advised it was a dual fuse box and may not be looking at right ones? Front blowers are o.k. moves to screen, moves to face, moves to floor - the rear ones don't `power up'.I'll try moving the temperature knob while on full blast to hear whether there is a change in noise. Tried pressing all buttons on panel - cannot now remember if they're on or off - just nothing happens. Car warms up same as usual within about 10 or so minutes - never over heated - only perhaps once when I got stuck on a rather steep narrow hill and my hubby had to run infront of the car to stop oncoming traffic as I couldn't stop and start without going backwards! Lesson 1 not to go down steep hills! - this was way before all the problems!! I do have a yellow symbol on the panel which is something to do with the glowplug? It has to go out before you turn the engine on ? Well it still does the same as it did before ? Hope this answers some of your questions. Does it sound like a Ford job to get these sorted as I'd rather leave alone what I don't understand! Quote
