Picked up the galaxy today. When i viewed the car the airbag warning light was on and the dealer said he would get it checked.

Picked up the car all ok except, just realised that the light doesn't illuminate when the ignition is turned on. I'm assuming that the dealer has stitched me up and removed the bulb or something.

The tyres on the front are barely legel and some of the plastic trim retaining clips are missing which he said he would replace, all he has done is move the seats around.

I no nothing about cars and bought the car from a garage as i thought it would be safe. Obviously not.

I bought this car so my children and partner could drive in comfort and safetyand has cost me a small fortune. I am dissappointed because of the defects but still love the car!

Any help in what i should do would be gratefully received.

Many thanks B)

Surely you have some come back ? It is illegal for a dealer to sell an unroadworthy car, clearly if the airbag light isn't working and therefore probably the system isn't working it falls into this category. I think I'd be tempted to put down the faults in writing AND get an MOT done at another garage, if it doesnt pass (and I would mention the airbag light) you have more evidence. Please also remember if the unthinkable does happen and the airbag doesn't deploy the insurance company will probably loophole their way out of any claim, a friend of mine who foolishly removed the airbag from his car to fit a sports steering wheel had his damages reduced from

I'm sorry to hear about your problems , I agree with John that you should not relent on getting the air bag problem sorted, sounds like he may be guilty of what you think. Was this a Ford garage ?

Secondly, not sure what you can do aboutthe tyres. This should have been checked when you agreed to buy the car (by yourself) however, if they are legal then he may have got away with it just.

Just proves you need to spend ages looking over a car, make a list of you have to and tick things off, tyres, brakes, feel the discs for scoring, exhaust, safety issues etc etc.

Just to add on this,

it may be worthwhile getting an inspection (AA or whatever), especially if you have reason to doubt the integrity of the dealer. Once you have the report, you can demand that he fix everything thats wrong, unless you had agreed beforehand, in writing, to any particular defects (and "sold as seen" has no meaning under the law).

If he doesn't give satisfaction, then you do have the option to reject the car and get your money back; the only catch here is that if you part exchanged, and he has passed on your old vehicle, he is obliged to only give you back what he valued the car at. Unfortunately this could leave you in the situation where you have no car, plus not enough money to even replace your old car with a similar one.

On the tires, OFTS advises that the car should remain roadworthy for at least 6 months after the date of sail, under normak useage. If the tyres have less than 6 months, and he did not point that out, I'd say you have a case.

But remember, you or even the law can't make him fix anything; the law can only back you up in rejecting the vehicle, and that only by way of a lawsuit, probably in the small claims court.

Don't want to depress you, but speaking from past experience, unfortunately once you have the misfortune to get involved with a dodgy dealer, you still stand to lose, whatever you do.

update....

me being a twit was looking at the wrong light. The airbag light was on all the time.]

Thoroughrly p****d off now. On way to shop this evening had to brake hard as lorry pulled out in front of me, abs worked, then the abs and brake system warning light illuminated. Drove home SLOWLY and turned off the ignition and restarted it and the lights were still on. Restarted a second time this time with my foot on the brake and the lights dissappeared???

Brake lights don't come on untill the pedel is fully depressed, sussed the problem from previous threads, (thanks.)

Got the car in tomorrow at 4pm to have it all checked out then war time with the dealer!

Love the car hate the dealer!
