Guest Rockdoctor Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 HiYesterday when I started up I got a brief message on the dash saying the next service is due in 2000 miles.I don't remember seeing this message it before, but I only got the car at Xmas, and I haven't driven it much since then. The last service was at 38217, June 06, and I presumed this was entered into memory, so shouldn't it be free of service messages until 50K? Or is the message related to the fact that the last service was done before the 40K interval. Current mileage is 41420.Should I just cancel the message and ignore it? Quote
steve67car Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 is atimed thing as well as a milage thing regards steve Quote

littledaz Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 (edited) The dash in your Galaxy is a carry over from the VW Sharan. VW use a servicing regime called Long-Life or Extended servicing. This enables the engine, using special oil, to go longer between services (generally anywhere between 9,000 to 19,000 miles). As far as I am aware, Ford never subscribed to this and maintained Fixed servicing intervals. The display is obviously a guide but, I would imagine it has calculated that you have done approx 3,000 miles in 8 months and it will take you approx 4 months to reach the next 2,000 miles. As steve67car said, it is a time thing as well as distance. Your servicing is every 10000 miles or 12 months, which ever comes first. Makes sense to me, hope it does to you too now. Edited February 4, 2007 by littledaz Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 I had similar message on mine, supposedly serviced just before I got it and I started getting messages after only 4K miles. I honestly don't know how or why but my advise is simply - 'Trust only what you know for sure!' Ignore everything you have been told about the car, take it to someone you trust and ask them to give it a full service, after that take it back after 12K or a little bit earlier if you are a low mileage user. One other piece of advice, if it's a TDI, do check when the cam belt was last changed and if in doubt, get it changed. I got mine from a Ford dealer at 69K with full Ford service history at the same garage and was told it had been fully serviced before delivery. I doubted the latter instinctively and, when I realised that the salesman had been telling porkies, trotted round to the service dept to check. Guess what, they had never changed the cam belt because no-one had asked them!!!!!!! Fair do's, they did change it when I pointed out that the had supplied a liability but I later found out that the job had been less than well done and was lucke to have escaped a belt failure within the next 5000 miles. Summary, don't ignore it. Take it to someone you trust and get it checked out. Ron. Quote
tim-spam Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 The dash in your Galaxy is a carry over from the VW Sharan. VW use a servicing regime called Long-Life or Extended servicingThe Extended Servicing is an option, and not a universal fitting on VAG Group cars. My Alhambra is specified as having fixed service intervals and the service indicator comes on every 9321 miles (15000 km). My guess is that the service indicator was not reset the last time the car was serviced. Quote
