Guest mcyoungy Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) Road noise Engine noise Gear lever too short Air conditioning simply does not perform Cannot adjust steering wheel for a comfortable driving position and see all the speedo as well Drivers seat height adjuster pivots the seat at the front instead of moving the seat vertically Position of the clock Edited February 3, 2007 by mcyoungy Quote
steve67car Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 jesus man what a list  surely you must have thought about all those downsides before you brought the car  Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 No I guess not. Even if I did see some of the shortcomings they are things I have to live with to have the passenger space. Quote
adrianf. Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 So what you saying then  By the way changed both my headlight bulbs in 10 mins with headlights in place Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 What am I saying - I think this car is cr@p. How did you change the headlight bulbs? I can't even get my hands in to get the covers off the back of the headlamps, let alone get to the bulbs themselves. Quote
adrianf. Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Im not saying its not tight but i did manage it so i guess i must have small hands. :D Ive just done nearly 700 miles with my Gal in the last few days, and i dont know if im just lucky but the faults you listed i just cant agree with .I know i shouldnt speak toooo soon but in the 14k ive owned the car it has not had a single fault  (Reaching out for a big piece of wood to touch now) Quote
steve67car Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) and your car even made it to my house so hows my wheels doing   Edited February 3, 2007 by steve67car Quote
adrianf. Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Only kept them about 6 weeks. For some reason didnt like the look of them on my Gal Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 (Reaching out for a big piece of wood to touch now)  as with the headlights, yes there's little space, i reckon smaller hands would do it easier, but took me a good hour or so to do them the 1st time. iv changed them about 4 times now (im testing different bulbs) - and have developed "the knack" can do it ok now. Guest mcyoungy Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Bet you couldn't change the front indicator bulbs in situ..... Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 2 more irritants....no ambient temperature reading no frost alert cheaper than a very cheap thing indeed Quote
mumof4 Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Road noise can vary depending on what tyres you have.I like the sound of my engine.Gear stick seems a fine size to me.Climate Control works on mine and performs well.Steering wheel has 2 settings on mine..and i can see the speedo and i am 5 foot 7.My seat moved fine..are you useing the right lever?my clock is nearer than 3 feet.Mirror adjusters fine for me.Washer bottle low fluid sensor works fine in my car.Tailgate easy to shut in mine.(wipers rattle over 60 on mine)Loads of room to store CDs in mine.2 Cup holders more than enough considering some of the seats have trays in front of them with a space for a cup!.I like the storage on the dash...You can adjust the spray of water..mine sprays fine. i could go on but i really dont have that much time.. I love my Gal and all her niggles..Cheap cars?..mine wasnt..and if you take care of them..they are damn fine cars..my opinion of course..yes they are expensive to repair...but my kids love it to bits. Oh and i get a frost warning..and i get a temp reading..it all depends on what model you get as to what you have in it. Indicator bulbs are easy to do..ive done mine.....ive had a practice at doing the headlamps..yes they are fiddly and take time...but can be done. Quote
NikpV Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 2 more irritants....no ambient temperature reading no frost alert cheaper than a very cheap thing indeed depends on your trim level ghia has both Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 (edited) Mo4 - My steering wheel has 2 adjustments - up/down and in/out. Maybe I am too tall at 6 foot. I cannot see the 60 - 90 range on the speedo and be comfortable. Yes I can adjust it to see the speedo - but it puts the wheel in an awful position. The fan type washers are not adjustable, I believe. if they are I would loveto know how. Many posts on this forum saying they are not. I don't have a washer fluid level sensor. Mirror adjusters - what a dumb place to put them - I have to adjust the passenger mirror so often because the adjuster gets clobbered when someone gets out. Where do you put CDs? In the dinky pocket in the drivers door? It holds 3 I think. 2 cup holders would be more than enough if indeed my car had trays - it doesn't. Indicator bulbs? How did you change them. I can't even SEE the holder on the NS, let alone get near it. Alot of things depend on trim level - mine is an LX so I don't have washer fluid level warning, frost warning and ambient temerature readout. I can't believe how cheaply built this car is for such a high price. These were comments on MY car, not yours. Edited February 4, 2007 by mcyoungy Quote
NikpV Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 LX - sorry didn't see where in the thread that was :( Quote
katman Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Alot of things depend on trim level - mine is an LX so I don't have washer fluid level warning, frost warning and ambient temerature readout. Ive often wondered what the different letters stood for. I guess that LX must be Lacks eXtras  Quote
mumof4 Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 These were comments on MY car, not yours. Yes i know they were comments on your car..my comments were on my car. Your comments are so negative!!...when you bought the car..most of the points you made would have been there...surely when you test drove/looked at it..you would have taken all these points into consideration..and if not happy..would have looked at another spec!? the galaxy is a good workhorse for all her faults.... Guest MATT jr Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 i agree on both sides lol its a great car, can carry 7 ppl in comfort, can use it as a van, good tow car, good economy for its size, better looking than the competition, but is brought down by various things. dunno about you lot, but theres ALWAYS something that needs repairing on our galaxy. atm the parking sensors are completely fooked - i got a proper error warning off it yesterday.and its started "humming" unfortunately it sounds like a wheel bearing rather than the humming of a hummer! ;) also our galaxy has always been squeaky, maybe they revised it on later models, but most door panels and dash and boot lid squeak, and it sounds so painful when your maneuvering on uneven ground that "twists" the body. im not much for the really large buttons on the radio, but thats minor. the automatic gearbox likes to surprise you now and then, with its antics. but otherwise its alright lol and i have changed a side light, daft, OTT german idea me thinks - but i managed it "ok" MJR  Quote
seatkid Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 The thing that really irritates me is how mine only averages 57mpg over the last 5000 miles - can't seem to crack the 60mgg average barrier! Quote
tim-spam Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 (edited) You could always try driving (even) more slowly..... Jacking points that crushThey don't. It's the sills when stupid people don't use the jacking points. Edited February 5, 2007 by tim-spam Quote
Guest nedunderthecaragain Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Two things there is a small flap built into the wheel arch liner. if you stick your head in the front wheel arch and look forward you will see a little raised bit of plastic. you slide this and you have access to the side lights and indicator bulb. also with the air con i have only had my car a short while but it managed to cope well with the heat of the summer. It is possible that you have a fault with the aircon. I have heard of instances where not enougth air con fluid has been the cause of this sort of problem. This should be checked out as there may be a leak. The air con fluid also lubricates the air con compressor so loss of fluid could cause the compressor to fail!!!!! from what iv'e seen from deelings with ford i doubt that a new pump would be cheap.
