ATB Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I've got an audo-dim mirror from a Mondeo, but without a wiring loom or bracket (the socket part of the 'ball and socket' joint) for the windscreen. I want to fit it instead of the standard mirror on my Ford Galaxy. Can anyone tell me: 1. Is it OK just to buy a loom including the plug connector and wire this into the electrics for the cabin lights just above the mirror or does the backet include extra electrics to make this work? 2. How does the mirror bracket attach to the Mondeo? The Galaxy bracket sticks to the windscreen - is this the same for the Mondeo or does it screw in somewhere. Thanks for any help.ATB Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 IIRC? the mirror has six wires to it? well the Galaxy model does! if yours is already wired for it? the plug will be tucked up behind the head lineing by the interior light/sun roof control panel (if fitted?)pin 1 White (White/Black)- switched live ignition feedpin 2 Black (Brown) - groundpin 3 Grey (Blue/Red)- live feed from reversing light switch/reverse relay (auto models)pin 4 Yellow feed to external dimming mirrors pin 5 Brown as pin 4 pin 6 Green (White/Brown) - interior lighting (ground switched) you could only use pins 1 and 2 to get it working but would loose some of the features! such as pin 3 so that the mirror doesnt dip when reverse is selected! pin 6 so that it doesnt dim when the interior lights are onthe majority of the wires needed to connect to can be found behind the interior light! it's getting the reverse light switch feed that can be a pain if your car is not pre wired for the miiror? it's been a while since I fitted mine! and I'm looking at a battered and torn print off so dont hold me to the correct connections! as for fitting it? the cables to the mirror are hidden in a nice trim plate that hides all the wires and routes them up and behind the head lineing this part is available as a seperate item! no idea of the Ford part number but from VW it's 7M3 857 593. Shield For Wiring Conduit available in two colours light Beige 4/00 4/01 Y20 or 4/00 4/01 8YS Pearl Grey have fun ;) Quote
ATB Posted February 2, 2007 Author Report Posted February 2, 2007 Wow, thanks for the comprehensive reply. Don't think my Galis wired for the mirror already as it's only a bog-standard Zetec and as I haven't got auto dimming external mirrors I'm not worried about loosing that functionality. I reckon I can live with it dimming while reversing as I've got parking sensors (and I could just switch it of using the button on the mirror) so all in all I think I'll just buy the loom and wire up pins 1 and 2 and see where it gets me.
