Please can somebody help...have 96 2.8i v6. all been good since i got it 2 years ago.

First prob....Aircon went a few months back took it to a ford garage to bypass the aircon ...all fine.

a few weeks later the ABS LIGHT CAME ON .Didnt worry all working fine.

2nd prob... now its time for MOT and abs light is a failure. :D

Been to origional ford garage, the guy who bypassed the aircon has now left and even better the new guy cant see what or how hes done it.

Last and best of all the garage has put on the ECU machine and it corrupted it , so no-one knows what the problem is.

CAN ANY BODY SHED SOME LIGHT ON MY PROBLEM....PLEASE Steve

Would you get away with taking the fuse out ? Does this mean the ABS doesnt work. All sounds a bit risky. I would bite the bullet and find an independent brake specialist to check things over for you, they dont charge for these checks and might just reset it for you.

I know of someone who had a Vectra with an airbag fault, meaning that the airbag light stayed permanently lit. In order to pass the MOT they removed the connections on the back of the light and reconnected the low fuel warning light wires instead. When the ignition is turned on the low fuel light often illuminates for a number of seconds until the guage rises far enough.

Therefore at MOT time switch ignition on ABS light will illuminate briefly and then go out.

This is a safety-related item! Isn't your life worth more than a few quid to get the fault diagnosed properly? Try an auto electrical or ABS specialist if concerned about the cost or competence of a main dealer, please!

My point too, although I didnt say it very well, what if there really is a fault ? I would not put the life of my family at risk, get it sorted.

I would also get it fixed, ABS can come in very useful at this time of year!!

Before I bought my Galaxy I was considering a VX Zafira 1.6 Comfort (yr 2000 model) with only 17000 miles, however did not buy because it had no ABS.

By the way I do not condone the trick with the fuel light, I would get it fixed!!

Good luck!

Thank you every one for your concern, i will see an auto electrician asap and maybe they can shed some light on the problem.B)

Any way can some body give me an idea of what the problem might be....?

And is it likely to cost me a small fortune...

many thanks Steve B)

Hi all,

I have a 98 2.8 v6, earlier in the year my ABS light came on and stayed on, i took it my local ford, it was diagnosed as a faulty ABS wheel sensor. It came on when i was on a gravel road travelling about 5mph, i braked to stop, i heard the wheel lock up then the light came on and stayed on till the sensor was replaced.

Hope this is of any help to you

Cheers Derek. B)

B) Cheers Fred, what i was saying was that the ecu failed to pick up any fault codes, would n't even read anything. So it actually did nothing at all.

Thats why i am so confused...

Of course the first checked was the sensors, was told unable to get them off, so really just getting nowhere quick.

and yes have researched this site with no answers being found

So has your ABS warning light gone off yet? If it has, it was probably dirt or other connection problem. It appears that most problems with ABS light are due to connectors within the wiring system - usually caused by dirt/water ingress at or near the sensors themselves. It is usually cheaper to get an auto electrician with ABS experience to investigate rather than a main dealer. Most should also have equipment to interrogate the onboard computer to read the fault codes. Good luck in getting it sorted.
