Airbag Clockspring

I've been looking through the topics on the airbag and clock spring, but no mention is made of what the problem is with them and how to decide if the spring is at fault.

 

I've removed the clock spring unit from the car, and I am using a DMM to check continuity through the leads etc (airbag is removed of course).

 

Basically I get a short circuit from both of the contacts on the column side connector to one of the pins of the yellow airbag connector. I'm guessing that this is the fault, or is this supposed to be? The other pin of the airbag connector is open circuit.

 

I don't want to shell out for a new clock spring only to find the problem is elsewhere on the car, so I'd appreciate if anyone who has changed this out already can help me out?

 

The car is going for sale soon so I need to get the dashboard light to go out.

 

Oh yeah - its a '97 Galaxy Aspen 2.0 petrol.

Can't confirm the fault - but when mine went all that happened was that the warning light stayed on. Fitted the new clock spring and hey presto - cured!

yes that's the fault! you should have no continuity between the pins on the plug to the air bag with the bag removed!
