gazza007 Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Anybody tried the new Shell Diesel??? Shell Diesel Quote
Mikef Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Looks interesting... I remember a debate on these forums about additives in Diesel...I'm used to adding stuff to my diesel that cleans fuel injectors (Redex etc), but I'm sure someone around these parts said that this could damage the VW engine in my Galaxy, so I've not used it since I got the beastie six months ago. I rang the Ford dealers and they said that they used these additives all the time...so who knows? cheersmikef Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 On my 2nd tank of it, through convenience rather than choice. No difference noted to date. Same drone, same clatter, same economy, same torque. It doesn't seem to matter what I put in, it always performs the same. With one exception, Bio Diesel. Noticable lack of torque low down, and a kin awful stench. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Is it the same price as ordinary Shell Diesel? We have a lack of Shell stations round here - the nearest one went to Texaco last year and I haven't found another since.I nearly tried BP's new "higher power" diesel until I looked at the price - 3p per litre more expensive that the normal stuff! That's nearly 15p per gallon, or a few quid per tankful.... Quote
gazza007 Posted December 4, 2003 Author Report Posted December 4, 2003 Same price as before unlike the petrol optimax.Out of interest do Shell supply any of the Supermarkets as I tend to use these. As SA said I've never noted a difference using various brands previously. Quote
iainkirk Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 Shells Diesel Plus gives the same perfromance as......virtually everything else! I've done about 10 tank fulls so far....not noticed any difference. Only diesel I've found to give poor performance is Morrissons supermarket diesel. Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 I believe that of the Supermarket fuels, Sainsburys is the closest to the big oil companies in terms of formula, and is imported from Sweden. It appears to contain added lubricant to offset the reduction in sulphur. Info from Honest John and others. Quote
Guest T120 Posted December 16, 2003 Report Posted December 16, 2003 Sainsburys Ellesmere Port get their Diesel from Shell Stanlow, which is in Cheshire? B) Quote
Tigger Posted December 17, 2003 Report Posted December 17, 2003 Now Honest John . He writes for the sun? Is that right? Quote
wiggybn Posted December 26, 2003 Report Posted December 26, 2003 Morrisons supermarket fuel is clearly signed as being Texaco, isn't it? Quote
seatkid Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Morrisons supermarket fuel is clearly signed as being Texaco, isn't it? I thought everyone knew that petrol and diesel is supplied from your nearest refinery (of with their are only a few in the UK) and there is no difference from brand to brand - it all comes from the same storage tanks. The companies have had agreements to pool their resources for decades. Quote
Guest Dave S Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 Whilst petrol (and diesel) does come from the same storage tanks at the refineries, the loading card, gate pass ,ID card (call it what you will) that is used by the tanker driver to operate the loading equipment identifies the additives to be added as the product is pumped into the tanker. These addatives are different from Shell BP, Texaco etc. Quote
