I have been playing the excellent game Call Of Duty 2 on the PC, the game allows you to join to a server to play with other players via broadband, but does anyone know how to set up a server so you can invite just chosen players to join, rather than anyone ? If you've not played it then try the demo version:

Got a feeling that will cost you jk ..... IIRC I had a big problem with downloading the Multiplayer patch from their site ...... turned out a hacker had attached a virus to the patch!!! Didnt bother with it after that. Good game though ...very addictive.

You should try Battlefield 2142 or even Battlefield 2

Both are excellent online first person shooters, and (IMO) much better than the COD games they need a decent spec PC to run nicely though.

You can run a server from home, the problem you have in multiplayer is LAG, if you try to run it from the same computer as you are playing on it slows everything down and players get upset.

You can set a dedicated PC on your internal network and use port fowarding on your router to route to the dedicated PC this means you won't get lag or as much anyway.

I used to do this for quake 3 using noghost server which is brilliant, but a lot see quake 3 as old hat now :(

Quake 3 multiplayer was fine but its single player mode - constant deathmatch wasn't particularly gripping, more recently Far Cry was good in this genre

Thanks for the info, a few of us have got together to buy a router and a dedicated PC to run as a server, so hopefully we will be blasting away soon.
