Guest BDM2510 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Dear members, Thanks to the forum One of the members helped me with the necessary visteon module which splits the video image to the screens. I followed the pdf files on one of the postings and connected as per diagram. Black to black (AUX) and grey to grey (AV1) and the splitter cable to the front. Nothing happened and media would not switch on. Moved the AUX to AV2 socket and the screen activates, video turns on, menus appear, remote works but no image from video or rca cables. Has anyone had this problem before and does anyone know how to solve? Puzzled as the screen images are sharp on the menu screens and when AUX or DVD appears no image apart from waving black lines. Is it the module perhaps? I have disconnected and reconnected cables on the video and under the seat as suggested by one posting and still no image. Puzzled why the correct configuration into module fails to work yet move aux to av2 on the module and activates but no image. Help required and look forward to prompt response to solve - so frustrating when you are nearly home and dry. Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Dear members, I have an update which may help to find solution. I looked at the configuration again. As long as AV1 or AV2 has the VCR socket connected and I plug the black AUX cable in to empty AV1 or AV2 then return and plug into the black AUX socket, it appears to activate the AUX and will play images on the screen from an ancillary DVD. I would appear that the black AUX connector is activating the screen when put into the empty green AV1 or AV2. When returned to AUX is is acting as it should and play straights from the standard AV leads from an ancillary item. Only downside I have come acroos is that the screens do not switch off by the handset and you have to unplugged the green AV1 or AV2 (wherever positioned) to switch off the screen. Even when the radio is off and key is removed the screens still stay on. I`ve only had time to leave for 5 mins but still activate when I checked. Could it be a fauly VCR? Could it be the module? At least I know the screens are working and getting sound and video but looking for a long term solution. Any help welcome, BDM2510 Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Next update - Checked out the video to see if it was working. Used the AV output leads onto a seperate screen and all working perfectly. Re-connected leads back to video and reconnected module box. Video now working onto the screens. However, can only get the video to work seperately or the AUX to work seperatley but not together. If you take the module connection side the working confifuration was as follows; When Aux is working AV1 - Grey socket from videoAV2 - Blank no connectionAUX - Black Aux socket When Video is working AV1 - Grey socket from videoAV2 - Black Aux socketAUX - Blank no connection Now I`m thinking is it the module at fault? Is there a connection missing for AV2 as used in the DVD format? or something else? I just can`t put my finger on it and hope someone can help. The other thing I notice which was different was when connecting for video to work the screen has VCR and AUX in the selection mode together whereas previously it was only coming up DVD or AUX. In the video working mode, the remote works best. But I need the AUX to work in tangent with the VCR. This will give me the option to use playstation or DVD via the RCA audio video leads. I`m so close but need an expert to help. I`ve used the pdf files swhowing the wiring looms and in the correct format only get the AUX to work and neither working together. H>E>L>P Quote
big_kev Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 MATT JR............your expertise is required here ! He's the man who can help you ( assuming he is still sober ). Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 lol luckily you caught me before Friday (night out time!) ok, so you've established the screens do work (as you have managed to have an image on them, also for both screens to fail at the same time is highly unlikely) the video player works, as you've tested that by wiring it direct to a screen, and all was fine. can you tell me what the black auxiliary RCA lead is connecting to? (PlayStation/dvd? - has that been switched on when trying to display it?) "Puzzled as the screen images are sharp on the menu screens and when AUX or DVD appears no image apart from waving black lines." if there was no video signal at all - the screen usually goes blue - or indicates "no signal", wavey black lines means there's a signal, but its a useless signal. ...unfortunately our galaxy hasn't got this system installed, otherwise i would know more about it, but to me sounds like there's either a wiring issue (wired up wrong or faulty wires), or more likely, a faulty visteon video module - it controls an awful lot, it takes controls from the IR remotes, splits and switches video/audio signals, has a built in audio processing unit, and a amplifier for the headphones. Guest BDM2510 Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Matt JR Thank you for the prompt response. If I put the green AV1 socket in place and put the AUX into AV2 it seems to activate everything and the remote works perfectly with VCR video. I need to take to AUX socket out of AV2 and into the AUX in the module before I get sound. This gives me full video and sound most of the time. I have to put the AUX socket back into AV2 in order to get remote function. The more I look at it, it could well be the module. I`m just relieved that I can sound and vision as I was worried about the screens. For me to work the RCA I have to play about with the socket configuration before getting a signal to the screen. I have tried a playstationand a handheld DVD/TV. Only the DVD image shows and cannot get the TV signal throw the RCA. Is it a faulty AUX socket in the module I think? I hope this additional info helps. I have looked and can find no extra AV2 socket but I believe this is only used for DVD. Surprisingly when I chose the first menu selction it gave me a choice of DVD, VCR, or, AUX. Never seen that before. Normally comes up with VCR or AUX. Could the rom chip be knackered in the module? Look forward to your response and any further assistance. Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 hi bdm hi have the same system as yours in my galaxy, well i did till it went up the wall m8 it defo sounds like the module in the centre console..that is givin you problems im not sure but the member waltz has a spare module. also if you pm me your email address i will send you pdf docs of the whole system .in the end i took my whole system out and changed it.the only part i kept was the vcr in the rear speak soon gooner;) Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Gooner52, Thank you for your response. Walz sorted me out with the module. It is this module which I`m testing justy now. I am just grateful to get images and sound as up to now I`ve had blank screens with the previous module. So Walz has given me some hope that at least the screens and vcr work. It`s just one of those things, you scratch your hair out in the hope it will just click and work normally. Disappointed at Visteon though for their daylight robbery on a new module. It`s not rocket science technology but they got you where they wany you - in their pocket. I thought about installing another system but not a techy and will persevere. Thanks for the input as it is much appreciated. Walz has been a star man as well as I would never have got this far without his help, support, and prompt posting of the module which at least let me test the system so not to bear more expensive costs on replacing vcr or screens, etc. Many thanks BDM2510 Quote

Guest walz Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 (edited) Hi BDM, Sorry to hear that the module is at fault, Fords told me it wasn't faulty even though i had bought a new one and fitted it. I suppose i might be able to pull a scam and send it back and say the new one i have just bought is faulty and they might send me another one!!!! Walz Naughty but nice - please vote whether we should get back a little from the amount we spend from the Mighty Frauds Edited January 30, 2007 by walz Quote
Guest walz Posted January 30, 2007 Report Posted January 30, 2007 Hi BDM, With discount i can get a new Module for Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted January 31, 2007 Report Posted January 31, 2007 Walz and Gooner52, No worries, I just pleased that the module has let me test the system as I was fearing the worst. When you go round the houses with the wiring you think that there is a sequence that everything just clicks. Having connected a VW Sharan with a multimedia system 3 years past (never again), It was the simples thing which made it click into place - 2 positives cables. I was hoping that the module needed a starting sequence which would allow me to have either fully functioning vcr or aux support. But good that I`ve at least got this far and with special thanks to the team. It is the rollercoaster ride of winning and losing that makes the Galaxy a joy to work with. I have the pdf files from a previous thread and it was confusing me about the 2 wire module connection for vcr and the 3 wire connection for dvd version. Anyway at least I can target the main item now and I may take you up on your contact for another module but I have 2/3 things up my sleeve first which I will keep you posted on. Don`t we just like a challenge in life and none more than a Ford Galaxy, Many thanks everyone BDM2510 Quote
Guest walz Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 Hows it all going BDM, Have you found the problem? Posty arrived the other day, thanks. Is no news = Sh*t news? Walz Quote
Gadgetoid Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Hi BDM Not been on the forum for several months - nice to see you back. Never got around to thanking you properly for your help last year (out of the forum) when I was retrofitting the visteon system to my Galaxy. The lead you suggested wasn't the right one though, but I managed to find the power cable from rear of stereo to the visteon module was listed in a separate section of the Ford TIS. I suspect that the cables between VCR player and module, and between stereo and CD changer, although they look similar, are different, and the reason your Sharan project failed was because of this. For your present problem, I would be very wary about the exact module part number. I suspect there are slight variations in the module between the VCR and the DVD setups. The module was the only part of my set up (other than cables) that I was willing to pay full whack from Frauds for this reason. I also deliberately avoided hooking up the module to stereo audio cable, partly due to the problems you experienced, but with the bonus of doing that allowed me to keep the CD changer plugged in. ( Means that if sound from the DVD is to come through the stereo it has to use one of those fake cassette rig-ups, but how often do I want to hear Bob the Builder through the whole car?) For connecting up the module, I found this document the most useful:http://euro.evisteon.com/uploads/euro_docu...tt%5FInst%2EpdfI'll try to add the document as an attachment in case the link is no longer active, I wonder if the attachments system has improved since I last visited? The diagram for HR-1780 is the most analogous for the Ford galaxy DVD setup, but the others are probably useful if you are trying to setup the VCR system. As you can see, the module accepts different ways of conecting for different sytems, but whether the modules are different models is not explicitly stated. Good luck with your project. Quote
Gadgetoid Posted February 11, 2007 Report Posted February 11, 2007 Also found this, giving circuit diagrams of the visteon module, but as this is the module for a Renault, again I can't be sure if there are different versions euro.evisteon.com/uploads/euro_documents/Renault%20MM%20Service%20Man%20--%20Control%20Module4.pdf May be of interest though Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Dear members, At last an update and further thoughts required from the team. Good to hear from you gadgetoid. I should have pointed out that I had a VW Sharan 3 years ago which was my wife`s and 3 years later decided to buy a Galaxy Ghia. Obviously I am prone to the multimedia problems which seem to attract me to these cars. At least now I can update. First I managed to buy an almost complete set of wires, screens, and the all important visteon module off e-bay. Thought it was worth a shot in case there was a faulty wire. The moduole itself was different inside to the Rev 7.01 from Walz. Plugged in and vcr and remote worked perfectly but no AUX input. Foolishly I did not use the correct input lead from the intended device and should have plugged in the playstation sitting there. Cut a long story short, I spiked the board on the module by accidently putting the video socket into the aux socket on the module. Went back to Walz module and everything operated except for remote to vcr and mono sound in earphone. What next. Stroke of luck, kicked up a fuss with dealer as car out of warranty and he confirmed payment for a new module. The module arrived yesterday. Installed correctly as per the instrcutions provided on this site. Pressed the remote and the screen options were DVD and AUX. Stereo sound and twin screens working in VCR and AUX mode. Only one thing didn`t work was the remote to the vcr via screens. I wasn`t too worried as you can disconnect rear socket and if you open parcel lid the rmote will activate independently. Job done or so I thought. Due to the cabling on the back carpet area, I had all the components removed from the console for ease of test and connection. I switched everything off and began the process of disconnecting cables and carefully installing all cables and the modules into the centre console. Wired up exactly the way as first time and pressed the remote. Screen appear but only AUX is shown on the screen. Everything from the AUX leads work perfectly but no VCR input. Did complete strip down and reconnection with the same results. Is Gadgetoid correct in that there are 2 types of Visteon module for the Galaxy multimedia systems? Should I just leave the VCR and connect a Visteon DVD into the system? Why doesn`t the brand new modules receive the VCR signal? If I go for a DVD system can anyone remind me if it is a single lead from the dvd to the visteon module or does the single lead split for power? Does anyone have the part number for this lead? I may already have this lead in the small collection of parts but just wish to check? Some good question here and any help would be appreciated. Because of the frustration I`m delighted that I`ve got the AUX cables fully working as it allows me to work the system as intended. When in front you can`t see what`s happening. Remember once travelling from Halifax to Isle of Bute and kept asking my son if he was enjoying his Postman Pat DVD which he confirmed was good. When we got to Carlisle for a break, I looked in and the screen had been blank all the way from Halifax as I had stopped for fuel and sitched the radio off. Poor kid watched the blank screen and as proud parents of our first adventure with DVD in the back he didn`t want to upset us. Anyway I digress, the AUX leads will allow my wife to control the dvd via a handheld unit. My son is 3 years older now so fully able to work the remote and answer back correctly. I look forward to your thoughts on the above. Regards BDM2510 Quote
Gadgetoid Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) Hi BDM When I fitted my system I used a mates copy of the Ford Microcat parts database (2003 so now a bit out of date) - this was mainly because the dealer did not realise there are two sections for the DVD system: J06.060 Family Entertainment System ( for looking up parts for the factory fit sytem) andZ04.079 Entertainment System ( for parts as per the Visteon retrofit document which you should already have) Looking at these sections there are at least 5 different parts numbers for the Module : Z04.079 04/2000 - 01/2001 Finis 1123448 04/2000 - 09/2001 Finis 1135852 09/2001 - Finis 1148436 04/2000 - 01/2001 Finis 1131233 (Remanufactured) 04/2000 - Finis 1136000 (Remanufactured) J06.060 As above plus 09/2002 - Finis 1225805 ( this part specifies that the module is for the DVD system - the others do not ) 09/2002 - Finis 1225806 ( ?replacement for 1225805) My Module is 1225806 and works fine with the DVD sysyem. I did try plugging in a visteon VCR but it didn't pick up a signal from this - but I was being greedy and had the DVD still plugged in ! The DVD to Module cable is both power and A/V - Finis 1225814 if I read my invoices correctly The other tricky lead in this system is the power in / AV in / AV out / cigarette lighter cable (Finis 1146020 ) - I think that the AV in connector also carries power out to the VCR, but that the AV out is designed to hook in to the back of the stereo, through another cable I was unable to identify. I left this out in the end - with the result that I kept the CD autochanger, so no great loss having to go without the Shrek soundtrack via the cars speakers ! Hope this helps you work out which module you do have and whether it's the correct one Edited February 21, 2007 by Gadgetoid Quote
Gadgetoid Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 (edited) And whilst I'm looking at the old paperwork for the parts numbers, I'll translate the visteon retrofit cables to Ford parts numbers (latest Finis number quoted when more than one exists): Part N ( power cable from back of radio) Finis 1128654 Part O (power in/ AV in/ AV out / cigarette lighter ) Finis 1146020 Part P ( AVout to VCR ) Finis 1127212 Part Q ( module split cable to seat back cables) Finis 1123442 Part R ( VCR AV and power split cable) Finis 1225812 Part S ( seat back cable) Finis 1131285 Part T (module to control panel cable) Finis 1123443 My apologies to Hijacker, to whom I promised this parts list 6 months ago, but better late than never! Guest BDM2510 Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Dear Gadgetoid, Apologies for delay in response as my posting didn`t record recent corespondence. I`ve ordered the DVD to Module cable with both power and A/V - Finis 1225814. I read through Ford`s copy of the item listing and they seem to struggle with these diagrams. I`m hoping that all works when connected as I`ve a spare dvd socket in the module, the dvd unit itself and hopefully bingo when it connects. I need to cut out the centre console to fit-so dreading this part. I`ll keep you posted when the cable arrives. If I hadn`t damaged the correct module I would have had VCR and DVD AUX working. But should be worth it in the end. Perplexing why the video signal doesn`t work with the new module. Worked fine on immediate connection but the visteon module inners for the correct module is different. I`ll probably leave the VCR plugged in as unsure if taking it out may stop the screens from turning off. I bought an NTSC VCR from the states brand new. Not sure if you can convert to Pal stystem. Works perfectly but no signal in the screens. I`ll keep you posted on developments, Kind Regards BDM2510 Quote
Guest BDM2510 Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Dear Gadgetoid, Good news! New cable arrived today as per your finis number. Plugged in the dvd and bingo - all working in full order. DVD showing my sonn`s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with full stero and all remote features working as they should. Inerestingly enough the DVD unit I bought on e-bay which was described as working - just spun the disk round. When I plugged in the won sold by a Ford garage as fauly - not readinng disks - it worked perfectly with all the disks I put in. I bet it came from a vehicle with a visteon module problem. This module has been a real pain and so over priced for what it is. On reflection I would recommend paying for the module as it saves a lot of heart ache despite the cost. Now to cut out the cosole to fit the DVD unit. Any tips on cutting this out welcome!! I found an image on the site showing where it sits. I will probably need to invest on the plates for it to sit correctly. At least I`m nearly home and dry. Thank you and the team for all your help Regards BDM2510 Quote

How long ago did you buy it because you could always take it back and get them to sort it? I had 2 remotes with mine ....... Edited September 18, 2007 by Bleeno Quote
