nhawan Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 (edited) Is there an easy way to find out if an engine is 115PS or 130PS. I just bought a Galaxy 1.9 TDi 130PS but am not convinced it really is a 130 BHP as advertised by the previous owner. My previous car was a 115PS Galaxy Tdi Ghia and this new one drives almost the same with only a slight power increase. It is a 53 reg Galaxy 1.9Tdi Ghia. I cannot find any mention of the output power in the paperwork that came with the car. Any ideas? Edited January 26, 2007 by nhawan Quote
littledaz Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 130 has red tdi badge on bootlid - 115 has chrome with red border IIRC 130 has a silver engine cover - 115 has black Also your engine code should be ASZ. Can find the code on top of your timing belt cover, requires engine cover removal. Quote
springen Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 Don't be fooled by the 'badge on the tailgate'. It is not a reliable way to identify it. I recently bought a tdi Galaxy. The dealer (Ford Main) advertised and sold it to me as a 130bhp. After I got it home I noticed that the engine cover didn't match the 130bhp one shown in the handbook. I returned to the dealer and they too quoted the 'red' badge, but after checking it on Ford's central computer it was found to be a 115bhp. I still wanted to keep the car so we 'came to an arrangement'. I'll probably get it chipped once it is out of warranty. Quote

I agree to some extent because when I was searching for a 130, I tried my main dealer who had 2 Galaxies. One had the red badge and the other was chrome. I asked the salesman what bhp they were and he said "I don't know, I'll have to check". I thought he was just thick. All I can say is, every 115 I viewed had the chrome badge and the 130s had red apart from the Ford dealer who didn't know. <_< The only true way to check is by the engine number which takes 2 mins. craig245t Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I wanted to check which model mine was before buying.... I phoned Ford and they said the only way to be sure was to give them the chassis number. Mine is 115PS and (co-incidentaly??) has a silver badge with a red border on the boot. What Ford couldnt tell me was whether my engine (1.9tdi 115PS 2000 X reg) is a PD engine. They didnt seem to know what the PD engine was.Can anyone tell me what engine i have as having read the posts on engine oil i dont want to get it wrong. The car is the facelift model with the triangular headlamps. Is the facelift model (this is how it was described to me) actually a MK2. The car was registered in Sept 2000.Thanks in advance... Quote
littledaz Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Yours is a PD variant. 90 & 110 are standard TDi engines 115, 130 & 150 are PD TDi engines. Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Phase 2 90s are PDs also. Quote
littledaz Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Sorry mcyoungy, didn't mean to leave you out :16: Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Thank you.....us little ones are just as much a Galaxy as the rest you know!!!!!! Quote
Ex-Galaxy person Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 How different is a PD to a standard TDi? I've got a 2000 W reg TDi Zetec Mk1 - which I know is 110. I've been told that all the engines are basically the same - it's just the ECU that changes the power output. Is this right? cheers, Phillip Quote
Guest mcyoungy Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 (edited) No. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VW_en...#75_hp_2.0L_SDI Have a look here for starters. Would yours be the VP37? http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpe-D%C3%BCse Translate that using altavista Babel Fish and it tells you all about the PD Edited January 28, 2007 by mcyoungy Quote

zeplin43 Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 Go to the back of the car on the right hand side take off the lid of the compartment where you keep the jack.Look inside to the top right hand side you will find a white stiker with all the caracteristics of your car.If you have 85KW = 115HP.If it says 96KW = 130HP.By the way this stiker put in when the car is beeing assembled has all the details of the car.Motor type, horsepower, gearbox ref, paint color ref, as well as all the extras codes.
