GalaxyGhiaTD0555 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Can't post in the Galaxy forums so I'll try here... I've just bought a 55 reg Galaxy Ghia which has got a sat nav integrated with the radio/cd player. I haven't got a handbook for it and looking through these forums there seem to be different types of sat nav so I'd like to find out which one I've got. It's got a display screen about 4 inches by 3 in the middle which swivels slightly, with the controls around the edge of it. The CD autochanger is in the boot. There are 3 press buttons down each side which select the radio presets, or which CD you want. There are lots of things I can't work out how to do on this, and I'd really like to know how to turn on traffic announcements on the radio? I can't work out anyway to do it. Can anybody tell me which sat nav I've got, and how to turn TA on/off on the radio? Thanks. Quote

GalaxyGhia ....... if you can hang on mate what I'll do is to scan my SAT NAV book and post it here on the forum as I think it will probably be quicker than going through each of the functions with you. I've had a look to see if there are any pdf files on the vwnavi site but they're still under developement. So, if you can bear with me I'll do it as soon as I can. Chris Quote
Smilge Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 Thanks to Cepheus reminding me of copyright infringement Im going to have to give you indstructions from the book mate ...here goes: Traffic Announcements When it is broadcast, traffic information automatically interrupts radio or CD playback. Traffic Programme TP will appear in the display as soon as you tune into a station which braodcasts traffic information messages. If you do not want to listen to traffic, set the TA volume to zero in the sound settings menu. To end a traffic announcement During a traffic announcement, press the TIM control to end the message. Traffic programme search If it is no longer possible to receive the traffic station during cd operation, the radio will search for a new station with a traffic programme Traffic Memory The radio has a digital memory that can automatically store up to 9 traffic announcements totalling 4 minutes. This can be used to listen to traffic messages prior to a journey. When the memory is full the oldest announcement is overwritten. If a message is longer than 4 minutes the beginning is overwritten. Upon playback, a sound will indicate that the whole massage could not be recorded. To activate Radio switched on Each traffic announcement broadcast by the station tuned will automatically be recorded. Radio switched off Press the TIM control. Recordeing is deactivated either 24 hours later or when the radio is switched on again. If the vehicle is being driven with the radio off, the standby time can be adjusted. Refer to audio settings. Playback Press the TIM control. Traffic announcements are played with the most recent first. The display will show how many messages have been recorded(e.g. Track 2), the station name or frequency, and the time of the recording. The announcements can be played in any order. To hear earlier or later announcements press the left or right rocker control respectively within 2 seconds Fast playback Hold down the right rocker control. Repeating announcements Press the left of the rocker control at least 2 seconds into the announcements To end playback Press the TIM control. Deleting announcements Traffic announcements are automatically deleted after a period of time. Guest Cepheus Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007  Sorry about you having to type all that out Chris. Always better for everyone to be Quote
GalaxyGhiaTD0555 Posted January 26, 2007 Author Report Posted January 26, 2007 That's great, thanks very much for typing all that Chris. I was looking for a button marked "TA" which would simply turn announcements on or off, like on the radio in my old car. Let's see if I've got this right - there isn't a simple way of turning announcements on or off, you have to go into the control settings and change the TA volume? I don't normally listen to traffic announcements but if traffic is heavy on my way to work I like to turn them on to see what the problem is - I'm not sure I want to fiddle with the control settings while I'm driving along, but it looks like the recorded messages could be useful. Thanks againChris (another one). Quote

Thanks againChris (another one). You're very welcome Chris ....... what I did, if you look at the bands you can use, TP1, TP2, FM1, FM2 etc ...... I tune the 6 channels in TP1 into local Radio TA programs which you can do just by watching it auto scan and then pressing one of the 6 presets to store that channel. Do the same for TP2 but national programs like BBC Radio 1 , 2 etc. the other FM channels can be used for anything else. So, when you have one of the TP channels selected, you will always get a traffic announcement from any of those 6 presets you have stored, whatever you are listening to. I only use the TIP button before I set off to see if there are any traffic problems. The TA adjustment volume is used just so that you arn't deafoned when an announcement is made. Bit clearer I think? Hope this helps Chris Quote
Gadgetoid Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 I think the replies so far are incorrect ! You CAN get TMC on the Ford SatNav unit - but only with expensive add onsSee this thread and others like it on the VWNavi site ( a must read for any galaxy owner with factory satnav)http://vwnavi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=...p;highlight=tmc The Ford unit is essentially a VW (Blaupunkt) MFD version D. These can be enabled for TMC by the addition of a VW TMC box + an extra FM aerial which routes only through this extra box.Cost = lots probably. VW TMC boxes are 70 ish without the aerial on Ebay, god knows how much from VWhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Volkswagen-Audi-TMC-...1QQcmdZViewItemplus you then need the aerial as well PLUS you need a subscription to TMC - and I suspect you only get this with a TMC enabled navigation CD ROM, and my guess is probably only for the year that CDROM is valid. ? another Quote
Gadgetoid Posted May 19, 2007 Report Posted May 19, 2007 OOps! The above reply should have gone on the Satnav TMC thread - I'd forgotten I'd already clicked the link from there to this thread. Still, all useful information, and slightly (tangentially) related to this thread LOL Quote
