grifjl Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 2002 VW Sharan 1.9TDi Sport.Recently our driver door has developed an annoying rattle. Quite noticeable, though all funcitons OK, e.g. door lock, electric window, wing mirror, etc.. Wondered if it may be black trim across centre of door but that seems OK. Any ideas? Don't want to pull door panel off - taking car in for Passenger Footwell leak problem in a couple of weeks so will leave until then if no luck with you guys. PS Don't you find that this site is great for helping you help the technicians fix the car? I think all VW/Seat/Ford garages should be permanently logged in to this site as it would enable them to identify the regular problems these cars have that the garages just don't seem aware of!!!! Dave-G Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 They ARE aware of them mate! Strewth...they gotta make a livin somehow y-know! B) I've never had the rattle mate, and dont use the rear wash/wipe unless you KNOW water reaches it, cos it's pipe probably burst off the joint behind the passenger kick panel/sill cover Quote
Richmond Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 It's a Ford, it rattles. It's not an Audi (which is a pity). Quote
Fordy Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 If you think that it is normal for Fords to rattle, why buy one?No rattles in any of my Galaxys, I've owned three now! Not to mention numerous other rattle free real Fords. Anyhow the Galaxy is basically a VW.Regards, Fordy. Quote
Richmond Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 Every car I've owned has rattled except an Audi (and a Volvo, come to think of it). You pays your money ... The Galaxy's not too bad; in my Peugeot 306, the rattles and squeaks are noisier than the engine (in fairness, it's a soft top). Why buy a Galaxy? Why not? I doubt that it rattles any worse than any other MPV. I certainly didn't buy it for the build quality! It does the job for which it was bought well, no fuss, it's comfortable, reasonably quiet (despite the rattles!) and fast enough. It looks like a loaf of bread and has the street cred of a Zimmer (admittedly that's more than the Volvo estate which it replaced had) but, hey, you can't have everything. I'm getting to quite like it. Quote
iainkirk Posted December 5, 2003 Report Posted December 5, 2003 IMHO they have a lot more street cred than many other cars out there... not sure where Clarkson has it on the "Cool" board though... now where's my zimmer??? Quote
Richmond Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 At least no Premiership footballer has been snapped driving a Galaxy (so far as I know), so that should keep it off the hottest end of the Clarkson cool board, and there's plenty of room to store our zimmers while we pootle along (not that the V6 exactly pootles, but all MPVs should pootle). Also, there's enough headroom for me to be quite tall and wear my flat cap while driving, an important consideration at our age. Obviously, the box of tissues on the rear window ledge has had to go, 'though. Mind you, where J.Clarkson gets off deciding what's cool and what's not, I cannot imagine. He dresses like me (and I'm reminded daily (hourly at weekends) by my family that I'm not actually that cool  ) and he's an old fart - I know, because I usually agree with him. Quote
Eddie Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Getting back to the original point about the rattle. I had this in one of the rear doors and when I removed the panel (which I know you do not want to do, but it is not difficult if you follow the Haynes book) the problem was very obvious and the screw which had fallen off was in the bottom of the door so a simple fix.Regards Eddie. chromedome Posted December 9, 2003 Report Posted December 9, 2003 Both my front doors rattle and they are getting progressively worse. The drivers door panel doesn't appear to be fixed properly as there is a 6mm gap between it and the door. The passenger door has someting rolling about in it so as you brake or accelerate it rolls backwards and forwards. I'm a bit concerned about removing the door panels myself so it's booked in with the dealer next week. I'll let you know if they fix it. Quote
