I,m considering a galaxy ghia 02/02. Advertiser says it has cruise control, but[thinking back] i dint see anything to do with that on the left side stalk......but it has a M/F steering wheel. Could they be mistaken about the steering wheel functions, and what are those "multi-functions" They aint ford dealers, the sales girl is smashin, and i dont want to embarrass her if SHE's wrong - or meeself if she aint! my 2000x zetec book dont show the M/F wheel B) Edited by Dave-G

The cruise control stalk (lhs of steering wheel) has an on/off slider switch on the face and rocker switch on the lh edge; however, the multi function steering wheel apparently includes the cruise control (as well as audio and sat nav, if fitted).

If it's got Multifunction steering wheel, it's odds-on that it's an import (like mine), as that's standard spec on the continent on Ghias. Extra

Mine has multi steering wheel and 1 power point. I thought 1 power point was standard now?

Can confirm mine is uk registered as They gave me 3 yrs ford warranty. I think imports only get 2 yrs?

There seems to be no consistency at all with the Galaxy!

My 2002 registered 2.3 Zetec had 2 power points in the back - full UK spec. with 3 year warranty.

My 2003 registered 2.8 V6 has only 1 power point in the back - full UK spec. with 3 year warranty.

Also my 2.3 had illumination on the cup holders - this is now not the case on the V6 (have to guess where they are at night). I asked the dealers in case it was a blown bulb but they confirmed illumination was removed as part of savings - can this be true??

If it's already been registered, best way may be to ask to see the V5 and see whether or not car was declared as new at point of first UK registration - and if you can see the service book, see who carried out the pre-delivery inspection...

In theory, by noting the VIN number and asking at a Ford dealer, they should be able to check and find out whether or not the car is an import.

Why should one worry whether it's a UK import or UK sourced?

As far as the warranty goes, it's a two year manufacturer warranty whether imported or not - the third year is a dealer-supplied warranty which is standard in the UK. If you've got a UK import and want the third year - you can buy it (supposedly).

As far as the power points in the boot go - you can get a nice shiny silvery adapter that provides three sockets from Halfords. It's also got some electronics to stop the car battery being flattened - I wonder if the normal sockets have this protection anyway?

I use the adapter for lighting & coolbox in the tent, but it would prevent the coolbox flattening the car battery which has happened in the past!

Actually, the UK warranty is 1st year manufacturers and years 2 & 3 is the dealer one - or so it was in my 2.3 (2002) and in my current V6 (2003)! However, years 2 & 3 are given free if you accept the 'classic plan' but this can be enhanced and lengthened by the payment of extra

All these variations appear to be at odds with the economy of scale benefits which I assume large scale manufacturers would want to achieve (see also the myriad different cruise control set ups provided). I would have thought it in Ford's/VW's/SEAT's interest to make differences between models the absolute minimum and to vary them as little as possible from one time to another. I suppose that they know their business best.
