How do I sort my headlights out for driving on the right (2001 V6 with standard lights)? I know that there has been some discussion of this before on the forum, but so far as I know there has not been a definitive answer.

Does sticking a converter lens onto the plastic headlight cover work? Does the residual glue come off OK after the lens is removed?

Presumably the dipped bulbs can be replaced with continental dipped bulbs.

Use standard stick on beam benders.

The adhesive comes off with alcohol, try using the type which stick on around the edge of the bender, not all over.

Full instructions come with them.

There is no such thing as continental bulbs, dipped or otherwise.

The direction of the beams on dip is a function of the headlight design only.

Eh? The beam benders stick onto the outside of the plastic cover that goes over all the front lights - you don't need to dismantle the units to fit them.

On the TIS CD is an elaborate pattern that can be printed out if you wish to "black out" parts of the cover - the beam benders look the more sensible option.

Hello I am new to this list. I am taking my Galaxy GLX 1996 to Europe. I know there has been discussion about headlights. What is the simplest solution. I am told I black sticky tape is OK if you know what parts need to be blacked out. Halfords advertise a set of headlamp converters plus GB sticker for 8.99 Would this be OK. Any advice would be welcome

Yes the Halfords kit is quite acceptable, it's what I used about 3 years ago. Rather than blacked bits, it contains 2 beam benders and a huge leaflet that tells you where to cut them and where to apply them - which is sometimes significantly different on the offside and nearside lamps.

I have heard it mentioned in the past that the French Police do stop and fine you if you do not have anything fitted to adapt the headlamps, even if it is daylight and you have no intention of driving at night. Be warned, be prepared!

Incidentally, congratulations for resurrecting a thread, 3 1/2 years after the last post !

When I had my Mk1 and was just going for a day-trip to France, I just blacked out the section on each lens with black insulation tape. I haven't got a diagram, but it's basically the lope-sided rectangle section on the passenger side of each lens that needs blanking out. I'll have to buy the proper deflecters for the Mk2 clear lens when I go over later this year.

#STOP PRESS# just found this post - may try these templates http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...=5397&st=30

Hi guys, I went to france last october, and i bought the halfords kit and it was a straight fit, no cutting,,,,,,before you take the beam thingies off, put your full beam on for 10 min and the glue comes straight off,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good tip - or else, if you battery can't handle it, use a hairdryer.

Good afternoon all. I did this on my 2001 Galaxy some years ago. I got the dealer to get onto Ford and print me off the templates. I then used these to tape the lenses appropriately to deflect the beams. When done the Tape pulls off with a little warm water and the car wash does the rest.

Hope this is of use.
