Galaxy Auxiliary Heater Problem.

Auxiliary heater on a 2001 1.9tdi Zetec Galaxy first winter I have had with the car started to make a jet turbine noise from the back as it got colder this stops when the car has warmed up.

As far as I can tell this is the noise it should make but now it appears that a bonfire has been lit under the car as the little heater has an exhaust on it which now blows out large plumes of white smoke and drips diesel out of the exhaust chamber!

My understanding is that this burns diesel to provide heat for the rear passengers some advice needed.

1. Can it be switched off or disconnected until I have time to repair it.

2. What is the most likely cause for the symptoms described could it be a faulty glow plug?

3. Why is diesel dripping out of it! (probably because its not been burnt)

4. It appears there are 2 water pipes entering the unit is this correct?

2) good chance it is a glowplug - 45 min job see te faq (click on my signature) may need resetting using vag-com

By now I'm sure you will done a search on this and found that the temp sensor is clipped to wiper assembly. Often folk short it out in winter with a mini fuse (whatever that is) to make sure the booster heater comes on all the time, but I guess that if you removed the sensor, it would have the opposite effect.

 

Not sure about the glow plug thing. I thought that it only ignited the mixture and once that had happened it kept itself going and the glow plus switched off. Maybe I

most problems are caused by the glowplug, might take you longer than 45 mins - esp if its as rusted as ours was.

 

...given its still running atm, if you were to change the plug now, you most likely wont need vag com to reset (as 5 fault codes have not been listed - yet - when 5 are listed - the booster shuts down permanently)

 

another reason for the smoke is over-fueling, but this is less likely.

 

you could unplug the boosters electrical connector - although you will need arms like that guy off the fantastic four!

I once disconnected the fuel supply pump to the heater till I had more tme to fix it. It's near the rear offside suspension anchor... Hmmm not very descriptive...

 

Look up near the side of the fuel tank, about level with the rear of the rear off side door. you can pull a spade terminal off it.

I hate being the bearer of bad news, your heater box could be u/s. the cost of a replacement is
