mrumbongo Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 I have just replaced all the brake pads on my Galaxy 1.9Tdi. The brakes work but the pedal travels slowly to the floor and feels spongy.This does not happen unless the engine is running, ie servos are operating. Without the engine on the pedal is solid.The brakes have been bled, there are no visible leaks from any hoses. Quote

chromedome Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 When you pushed the caliper pistons back, did you undo the bleed nipples to drain the excess fluid or did you push the fluid back through the system? If you pushed the fluid back through the system you may have damaged the seals in the master cylinder. Quote
mrumbongo Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 The car is a 2003.For the rear pads I undid the nipple. The fronts were changed before the backs about two weeks ago and all seemed well. It was only after changing the back pads that the problem was noticed. Quote
El Dingo Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 If the discs are grooved then the brakes will feel spongy for a while. If they are very grooved, then the sponginess will never go away completely. Quote
