Dave-G Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Like it says on the box really. Im sure I'm not the only one who feels they may have worded something wrong or omitted relevant details. It also gives a poster an oportunity to undo a rash comment if he subsequently regrets it.
El Dingo Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Yes, if possible, I'd like the edit button back. :)
Guest gooner52 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 i to would like to see the edit button return to vegas but @ the same time can see why it has not come back ....
Guest MATT jr Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 ..same as gooner...i can see why its gone, but i could do with it rele... i forget things as im replying, and have threads where i edit the posts to give updates (computer install/how to mount screen in top pocket etc) MJR :)
Guest gooner52 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 perhaps some system could be put into place if peeps abuse it then it gone for said member :) as mjr said.his computer install, with the edit button, would of saved on a lot of space...
NikpV Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 It iss possible to have an edit button active for a set time after posting e.g.15 minutes I wonder if this would be a reasonable compromise, it would certainly allow folks to correct spellings and other tipooos(sic) but stop the abuse of editting posts in a fit of pique when someone upsets them later (has happened a couple of times here recently) What it would not cover is the situation with the faq and mjrs computer install - certainly the computer install is a one off and a moderator could edit/merge posts together as they have with the faq over the last few months. In fact if mjr are wanted to add/edit at the momment all he would need to do is quote his original post add/change it and a moderator could then delete the original - ps tis may become unecessary given the appt of moderatos post but I am illustratuing the principle. comments ?
Neils TDi again Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 OK Surely by now it has become clear the edit button has gone to prevent the malicous use of the edit facility where a disgruntled member can delete or edit his own post making a thread useless or worse misleading. Until trust returns the edit button is likely to remain a distant memory. Accept that it will be a while and forget it cos when it comes back it will be a new pleasure for us all.
gregers Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 perhaps if the person needs a post editing then why cant they pm nik to have it done?maybe long winded but if it proves it can be run ok then maybe soon glen will allow us to have it backsoz nik if it means more work for you.
Dave-G Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 Sorry guys but I have to disagree with some of that. I post on 3 other forums - some with not very eloquent language - and the edit button remains a feature. Nor do I think its a good thing to trouble a moderator for. If on the other hand someone abuses the edit feature then either they lose the edit button - or the ability to post altogether?
Dave-G Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 There is also an option to indicate that an edit has been made after a few moments - or when someone else posts after you. I am also advised that an edit can be made in a different colour?

Very long winded..we cant run around editing for everyone..just not possible.
Guest gooner52 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 maz is right, just not that many hours in the dayi think the button should just be put back...... do we not have warning feature..soon sorted, dont you think
Guest Cepheus Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Agree with Gooner ... warn levels are there for a reason. Don't agree with making life more difficult for the law abiding due to the reprobation of the disgruntled few.
gregers Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 ok i stand corrected, but perhaps over something like matts post which is on going then could that not be edited how matt wants it,to make it more reader friendly?
NikpV Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 We seem to be going round in circles here ... Glen has made a definitive statement about it recently and will no doubt act when he feels he can.... Glens statement please pm me if you have any problems with this
