Ogben Schmutzel Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Hi All, How the hell does a bolt this size get into the tyre!!! It was in almost dead straight and the head was about half buried into the tyre. Reckon I might have picked up at the local Ford dealer earlier today. It must have been today because the leak was quite quick and the tyre would have been dead flat overnight. Anyway the hole is within 80mm of the centre of the tyre so here's hoping that it can be fixed!!! Any thoughts anyone? Regards.Oggy. Quote

Guest MATT jr Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 ...or what was the bolt holding in place before it ended up in your tyre! MJR Quote
katman Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Good thread :16: :16: :16: but the head is worn down a bit :16: :16: :16: Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted January 20, 2007 Author Report Posted January 20, 2007 Ummm - can see why this forum is called General Discussion and NONSENSE. Still having a bit of a lark will help the pain if I do need a new tyre. Anyone any idea what the price is now if it can be repaired?? Cheers.Oggy. Quote
katman Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Anyone any idea what the price is now if it can be repaired?? Probably varied wildly but my local tyre place that I have used for years charged me Quote
Dave-G Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Cost? - depends on how many tyre repairers there are on your patch - and their ethnicitythingy :16: There's loads on my patch - most of them owned by Mr Patel - and I usually get cherged a fiver for a puncture repair - regardless if a 'rat-tail patch was used. Your part of the world would probably see a much higher cost Quote
El Dingo Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 'Rat-tail' should be fine if the hole isn't too near the side wall. 80mm...? Well on a 215 that would be only 27 (ish)mm from the edge. To be honest, 'darn sarf' the labour cost is too high to justify repairs - cheaper to replace the tyre. Now c'mon someone, tell me I'm wrong and point out a tyre repairer near West London that can repair for less than half the price of a new tyre. Quote
tiny Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 No way should that be repaired. The deformation to the internal components of the tyre must be massive. I make tyres for a living, even if you could plug the hole, the tyre structure will of been weakend. Youre not just plugging a hole in rubber, theres multiple layers of fabric (Ply's) as well as a mettalic ply that that bolt must have gone through. A nail may slip between the cords with minimal damage but not a blunt ended bolt. Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 i with tiny on this onechuck the tyre and get a new one m8 please Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks all for your advice and concern. Yeh even after bolt removal I reckon that the tyre damage is considerable. Trouble is its a Continental with loads of life and I know that replacement is going to be Quote
gregers Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 whats your spare like?if it needs replacing, take it and the damaged one to the local tyre place and say if i buy a new tyre will you mend this 1 for free, that way youve got it as a spare until you can afford to replace it? Quote
Ogben Schmutzel Posted January 26, 2007 Author Report Posted January 26, 2007 Hi All, Just a quick update. Tyre was knackered, strands of metal poking into the tyre cavity. Decided that it was not safe to repair. Just not worth chancing it, apart from me(!!) I carry my kids and other peoples kids around. If anything had happened as a result of that tyre I should be locked up!! Anyway it gone now, and so has Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 ...i got a nail in my tyre yesterday (or the day before that - time seems to fly!) Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 they charge that in dartford just to park in the bay :) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 27, 2007 Report Posted January 27, 2007 i know yeh -- theres a place that did it cheaper --- but them were too busy, so just got it done, couldn't be arsed with the spare wheel carrier lol MJR Quote
Guest bigelvis Posted February 15, 2007 Report Posted February 15, 2007 Guy i work with was driving his mondeo on motorway when he got a puncture, changed tyre and went to local slow-fit centre when tyre was taken of rim they found a spanner inside it, wouldnt be my first choice of places to carry my tools but nevermind Quote
