norwichbluenose Posted November 30, 2003 Report Posted November 30, 2003 My drivers door lock on my 98 v6 ghi, broken when i spoke to the main ford dealer the said it would be a new lock costing Quote
Tigger Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 After I had had my first galaxy a couple of years, I had a problem with the drivers lock becoming gritty and hard to turn. At the time I got all the locks changed on warranty. From then on I lubricated the lock just before winter as this seemed to be the worse time. The garage did say it was a problem on the Mark ! galaxy. Have not heard about the Mark 2. Anyone know if they have overcome this problem? Quote
Guest Gav1968 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 The drivers lock on my one is stiffer than the rest...was just thinking yesterday that it mighyt be worth asking them to look at it. Quote
kevinp Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 My drivers door lock is also very crunchy and gritty at this very moment. This happened earlier in the year too so sprayed it through the keyhole with WD-40. Now it's happening again, I've bought some 3-in-1 spray (with added PTFE!) which I intend to try (as soon as it stops raining). Quote
Mussey1 Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 I had to spray both locks and handles with wd40. The locks had got pretty gritty and the handles were starting to get stiff over the last few months. It really has helped. However I cannot even get the key into the lock on the tailgate. I don't think it has been ever been used and has seized up. Anyone else have this problem. P.S. - My last car a '98 Passat had to have three door locks replaced at a cost of Quote
Guest SA Intruder Posted December 1, 2003 Report Posted December 1, 2003 They are the same as Passat/Audi A series Quote
Guest jpack Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 I had the same problem a few years ago. I brought a new handle with barrel and keys, I removed the barrels from the old handle and the new handle ( a bit ackward but not hard ) with the idea of swapping them. Now somewhere along the line Ford changed the barrel design so the old barrel did not fit the new handle. So then very carefully I swapped the lock pins one at a time between the barrels using a pair of long nose pliers, put it back together no problems. Your car is newer than mine so the barrels may swap over without having to mess with the pins. Also when taking the handle off or putting it back on, put the key in the lock and turn it all the way as you take it out or put it in. Quote

Guest yurir Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 The problem with the Galaxy locks, at least the pre-2000 ones, is that they appear allow rain water to seep in. Heavy rain at night, followed by a freezing morning, and you'll have trouble getting the key in due to ice. Quote
Tigger Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 Does the remote close the windows? I have a sunroof and and find that only the key will remote close. Quote

_dg Posted December 2, 2003 Report Posted December 2, 2003 a company called in.pro do a specific kit for the sharan to upgrade the standard c/locking to remote operation, the kit has key cover remotes so no extra bulky remotes to hang on your key ring! try.. C&R Enterprises Well if that is one of the mechanics, then I want them to fit one to my car and I hope it keeps breaking so that I have to return for them to have a look at it on a regular basis. Mussey1 Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 I have found a Microscan scl300 remote locking upgrade at the following site for Quote
Mussey1 Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 Or will this work...remote locking upgrade kit from www.vagparts.com. This one apparently does audi A2,A3 & A4 Quote
_dg Posted December 3, 2003 Report Posted December 3, 2003 There are quite a few aftermarket ones available and all do the job, but the problem with them is that the remote fob is a separate unit and not like the ford one, built into the key. It looks like the one form C&R fits around the key, which is what I would prefer. Quote
