Guest MATT jr Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 wind has been bad in chester. unfortunately my galaxy was hit by a tree early this morning/last night -- was more of a near miss - and only the rear part of the roof is damaged (mainly paint work) - i think the bloke who owns the field/tree is insured for it - so will see if chips away can sort summet. as for everything else - personally i considered it too dangerous to go out, but i had to go into uni to demonstrate my excel project (which went unusually well!) then i had go 11 miles, to post a voucher lol, was like a disaster zone! 2 Lorry's overturned - one on the A55 blocking it (i drove past this one on the other side of the carriage way)Trees EVERWHERERubbish bags flying aroundDust binssuper nanny went flying pastroof tiles falling off roofssomeones fence panel nearly hit me, as it was ripped from its postseverywhere is a complete mess. and not only are roads closed due to lorrys/trees, but some are also closed because of gas works -- so it took me 1 hour and 50 mins to do a 10 min drive! complete standstill. but everyone i know is ok, and thats all that matters MJR Quote
tiny Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Up in Carlisle its a lovely quiet night. Not even a breeze! Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 fingers crossed..last Thursday the gales were bad enough - I had to drive with a colleague from Hampshire to Leeds and back for a meeting. Passed 2 lorries with their roofs peeled open by the wind, like sardine cans. Suspect if it had been today, we wouldn't have made it. So far, fence down at back of house (it belongs to neighbours), too dark to see if any damage has been sustained by the house, so fingers crossed..... Quote
Andrew T Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 26 Hours noe without power, but I have to say it's not too bad. With a log burning stove, battery Radio, torches and candles we managed pretty well. We did use our residual tankfull of hot water for a communal bath though, so no bath for the Kids tonight (they're gutted about that........).Took me an hour an half to do the usual half hours journey home. I plotted a route entirely on lanes but was turned back again and again by fallen trees and flood water. I can't remeber a journey like it. But at least the house is still standing. We've retrieved pieces of the Garden furniture from the field but one of the bins is still AWOL. Quote
familyman Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 :) don't know what all the fuss was about ! we had virtually nothing here in newcastle ! got a bit breezy about 10.30 am but that was about it ! some people had "for sale" signs blown over but that was about it ! Quote

Bigjeeze Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Well it's been fairly windy down here in not so sunny Bournemouth - Mind you On Wednesday I was sitting in my office when I felt/heard a huge thud/bang - jumped up thinking the tree had finally fallen on my Gal but after a quick tour of the estate I couldn't see any damage. Then on the news they explained that the Army had just exploded a WWII bomb in Studland Bay - around 15miles as the crow flies! WOuldn't wanna be near one of them!!. Wind yesterday has taken the bins for a ride - I've lost 8 sheets of glass from the greenhouse but otherwise all OK. I went down the bottom of the road and I could've sworn the Isle of Wight had been blown closer in!!! Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Nothing going on here in Wolves .... got a bit windy early hours of Thursday morning in work, but apart from that nowt! Back home on the Wirral things were a bit worse at the coastal areas, nothing that hasn't been seen there before though. Hope everyone manages to sort out their damage/power issues. Wonder if there will be a baby boom in October ??? There usually is 9 months after power cuts!!! Quote

Andrew T Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 How do I work a computer without power?......easy I go to work. I can also have a shower and a hot breakfast here, and it's warm. Think I might move in. Having thought we'd got away with no damage water started pouring in through the spare room ceiling because the roof had gone. Quote
