Guest proof Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 A noise has appeared on my '98 Ghia 2.3 Manual Galaxy, 80,000 miles . It sounds like a tyre patter and starts at about 20mph , is worse at about 40mph and never completely goes away. Have had all 4 wheels off and checked for balance , condition etc. All Ok.There is no vibration throught the steering wheel and braking and cornering have no effect. Have tried replacing both front wheels with the spare to no avail. It seems to come from the front.Has anyone ever experienced this as I will have to send it into a main dealer soon and they may do the trial and error bit which could cost a fortune. Also managed to break the spare whl winch whilst messing with the spare which had never been off, I understand thats common ! Thanks very much, any help much appreciated . Quote
tim-spam Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Missing fasteners on the under-tray causing it to flap? Quote
Guest proof Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Thats interesting. I will definately have a look although the sound seems too 'heavy' for that. It would be great of it was - save me some money. Thanks,Phil Quote
chromedome Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Plastic trim along bottom edge of windscreen not secured properly? Taps the screen as your speed builds up. This has been covered before and the symptoms sound like yours. A bit of fiddling normally fixes it. Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 had the same thing on my mr2 was a screw missing on the arch liner ;) Quote
Guest proof Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Thanks chaps, I will go round the bus this weekend and check for loose bits and pieces that could be vibrating in the wind.Am looking at a new car this weekend so I need to get it sorted sooner rather than later. Phil Quote
Guest proof Posted January 21, 2007 Report Posted January 21, 2007 Well i have now taken a trade-in offer for the poor old bus. So I will never find out what the noise was. i checked all the bits that could flap and saw nothing loose.I found that as soon as the mileometer read 75,000 it started to fell very loose and noisy so i'me trading in for a volvo convertable so i'll end up with the Fiesta and the wife gets the new one !Be sad to see it go as its been so handy and great on long runs .I've only got to get the damn winch replaced before the dealer will take it. Thanks.Phil. Quote
