Hi All,

I need to replace the driver door mirror glass on my Mk 2 Alhambra SE.

Can anyone help with the following please?

It is heated, electrically adjustable and the whole assembly folds in electrically.

* Can I just go for a Mk 2 electrically heater mirror and is it the same mirror glass on the Alhambra, Galaxy and Sharan?

* Do I have any options other than main dealer? Have looked on E-Bay, hence the questions!

Thanks for any help.

Later Sharans (03 on ?) have the repeater flasher in the Door Mirror pod and may therefore be a different design. Halfords stock a non-heated replacement for the Galaxy shape glass at

Mk2 Galaxy's wing mirrors are a different shape to Sharan's and Alhambras and therefore incompatible. The Sharan and Alhambra are the same, which is also the same as the Mk4 Golf and I think Passat.

The Galaxy mirror is definately different from the Alhambra's. I have swaped them recently, as I liked the el. folding option and I 'm sure the glass will not fit...

My drivers side mirror on my Sharan didn't heat up; I was about to buy a Galaxy one which was as you found cheaper - not realising it was different. I ended up taking a picture of a mk2 Galaxy mirror in the company car park and compared it to mine... :16:

Word of warning be careful removing the mirror, it just clips in - but on different attempts at getting a replacement glass (involving 2nd hand Golf mirror which also didnt heat up either!) I damaged the motor mechanism when pushing it in and it became all 'floppy'. In the end I bought a

Thanks Gordon,

Can you give me any advice on what the best way of removing the glass is?

After the accident that broke it was just hanging out and I clipped it back in without paying too much attention. I thinking of using some of the cranked bike type removers that I have got somewhere.

i would use some gaffer tape, just to tape yr lose bits

then proceed to remove the glass, when you its loose or borkern how much of it

just be carefull not to brake and of the plastic on the motor itself;)

I broke mine putting it back on, I think it must not have been properly aligned or when I pushed it back I was not pushing it in squarely onto the motor, basically I was not taking the care that I had previously.

I've prised mine off with a large screw driver, to be honest I haven't worked out a best technique, sometimes they seem to pop off easily, other times they seemed to resist!!!

Just be cautious, which I think you will be anyway with a

...how to remove your wing mirror glass...

step 1...find a solid post

step 2...ask your wife to park next to it

and walla! the glass is gone! just like in the cilit bang adverts. :16:

...i asked a ford mechanic how to do it - as he was replacing one (on our galaxy infact) -- his answer was practice and the "magic touch"....left me thinking for many hours :16:

My tip - lubrication.

(Now before you all start laughing, I mean, my tip for fitting the new glass is to lubricate the clips.) :16:
