cat5 most commonly used for systems up to 100mbps can run 155mbps over short distances IIRC, cable consists of four twisted pairs (eight cables) three twists per inch, twisted to reduce RFI, easy system to wire and easy to connect, the plugs are Rj45's again easy to wire if you take your time and have the correct tools! and remember the correct colours code for the plugs! we once had an apprentice that was colour blind :) took us a while work out why all his plugs and sockets were duff ! mind you the over time putting his work right was nice :D
