well have just fix this motor it needed more grease ,the motor was dry.

took the headlight out ,and took the back cover off

once the back cover was off, removed to screws at the lower left hand side of the headlamp unit

then using a bladed screw driver removed the motor from the headlamp

when taking the motor out, there is a small black cover that will come away from the motor, dont lose it,otherwise the motor will not screw back in to place

once the motor had come away from the headlamp, there is a small wired connector

which just pulls out

once this is done, the motor will come away,

with the unit out,you will see 4 plastic lugs holding both sections, just prise then apart

then you will see the circut board and motor and plastic wheel

at this point i re-packed the motor and the wheel ,with grease

my motor was nearly bone dry

refitted the motor to the headlamp,

refitted the headlamp to the car

turned on my headlamp

and wallop both headlamps are now working fine

hope this helps someone else, saved me

Nice description and pics.

Some questions.....neither of my headlamps seem to repsond to the thumbwheel so.....

If I have Xenon headlamps will I still have the thumbwheel? (according to my handbook Xenon headlamps have auto levelling).

How can I tell which type of headlamp is fitted?

I thought xenons are distinctly whiter/bluer in colour, don't know about the thumbwheel - would probably be disabled if they were added as an option

they might of not change the control because of the dash dimmer

same switch is fitted to most vws/audis also iirc

if you have xenon headlights you have automatic headlight levelling(lucky git)

saves messing with the switch

I'll have to have a dig into this one - went out in the car this evening and thought the lights were poor, then remembered seeing this post yesterday.

Is there anything obvious about the light fittings or bulbs for Xenons?

It's probably just something else broke on this POS.

they are automatic on yours

sit in your car, then get loads of peeps in it,and watch your beam move;)

Are you sure? It'd be a bloody Godsend if you were right. I've just had a look at the light fittings and they seem the same as yours on the back.

2 bolts on the top, then look down the side where the headlight meets the grill at the side is the 3rd one

and the unit should pull out..

does yours have the headlamp washers
