mumof4 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Hi everyone, Another question will a full tank do the 500 miles? Answers on a postcard please :D Walz if you can, set the cruise control at 68mph......will give much better mpg than 70!..and yes, should do 500 miles on a full tank...didnt read your car details so am assumeing it is a diesel ^_^ Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Hi gooner, Its because you are carrying all them electrical shop goodies inside your gal, that's why you only get 400 miles per tank  Keep smiling Walz i think you might be right walz  how did you on down @ smc with this service tech any joy m8 Quote
Guest walz Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Hi Gooner, SMC as a company will be looking at my vehicle later in the month as no one can do that module or make the system work. Walz Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 let me know how you get on m8  Quote
Bigjeeze Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 I still get an average 44mpg - the computer always says it is higher but measuring on fuel used then 44mpg is good. I have had a smuch as 660 miles before the fuel light comes on - but only twice - and then thats driving around 50 - 60mph with cruise on. I find that the MPG doesn't vary too much unless I hit a lot of traffic or do a lot of crawling on the M25 etc. Still damn good for 105K miles!! My Wife Gal still returns an average 40mpg as well with 135K on the clock. Maybe it's just driving style. On an even more positive note - Tesco's near me are doing Diesel at 87.9 litre - saves an average Quote
Guest walz Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Morning everyone, I filled the Gal to the brim at the start of the journey and i had to step up the speed abit due to accidents and hold ups. At 75 MPH i was getting 38.4 MPG ( trip up) and at 85 MPH i was getting 37.9 MPG (trip Back). I got 310 miles to half a tank which in theory means i should get a good 500 miles per tank easily. ;) . I have been told though that the half to empty part of the fuel gauge drops down very quickly so you never know i might miss the 500 mile target. :) Walz Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 you could work it out on mpg. 70 litre fuel tank (70/4.55) = 15.4 gallon fuel tankMPG = 38.4MPG (15.4 X 38.4) = 591 miles! so add in your safety margin - in theory you could do 500 miles, and still have plenty of mileage left to find a petrol station :) assuming you actually have 70 litres of usable fuel in the tank! MJR Quote
Guest dannyboy Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 i'm not even gonna mention the fuel readings we get from the 2.3 Quote
Scope Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 I've just purchased my 1.9TDI Galaxy but my MPG is much lower than I expected.. I only managed to get 430 miles on a full tank (probably 20miles or so left when the light came on), making it just over 30MPG.. This is a mix of Motorway driving (80%) and 20% to the shop, city, etc, etc.. I tried hard to watch my driving (used to driving a company car with petrol card, so didnt really care before), but still the low MPG. Probably doing around 80 on the motorway. How can I improve on this? Quote
Scope Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Just to add.. My Galaxy is an Auto.. Quote
Andrew T Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 It would sound about right for a 2.3 though..........I reckon there can be up to 3 gallons remaining when the light comes on meaning that you've done about done 430 miles on 12.5 gallons which would be nearer 35 MPG which is better but still poor. Are you're using the conversion factor for imperial rather than US gals?(you should divide litres by 4.546) to get gallons). Quote
Scope Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Are you're using the conversion factor for imperial rather than US gals?(you should divide litres by 4.546) to get gallons). My calculations are as follows: Tank filled -> drove 430 miles -> filled 63 litres 63/4.546=13.85 gallons 430 / 13.85 = 31 MPG Sound very poor compared to most of the others I have seen (just under 40). NikpV Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 depends how you drive it - I've managed 650ish miles on appox Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 i agree with nik,you will need to drive very slowley to give you a idea you will need a man and a black flag :) :) :) :) :) Quote
Scope Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 i agree with nik,you will need to drive very slowley to give you a idea you will need a man and a black flag :) :) :) :) :) I guess i'll have to live with high MPG then. :) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 IIRC - when our MAF sensor packed in, the MPG & performance went right down! 80mph is not economic driving. 55 is claimed to be the best (as the engine is at optimum efficiency) i did a drive on the motorway at dot on 60 mph,, got 45mpg - although this could be a bit knackered due to different pumps used to re-fill the tank. i also had all electrics off radio/heaters/blowers etc, and timed junctions so i never had to stop (when i came off the motorway) MJR  Quote
Guest walz Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Hi Everyone, I was using cruise control and in 6th gear, i had heating system on auto, stereo banging out and a laptop being charged through a converter so really i didn't do too bad with the MPG - I like my Gal  Walz Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 well was getting 36mpg with a average speed on around 30-40 very happy with that.. :) Quote
GalaxyGhiaTD0555 Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I still get an average 44mpg - the computer always says it is higher ... Why does the computer give a higher reading? For my last tankful I got an average of 42mpg but the computer said the average was 46mpg. I think the auxilary heater can use fuel that the computer doesn't count, but it hasn't been on that much recently, and anyway surely that wouldn't account for a 10% difference. I got similar figures for the previous tankful. Chris. Quote
