Galaxy23 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Hello, Please can someone advise me on what the average fuel consumtion should be for my Galaxy.I have only just bought it today and done about 70 miles, most of which was on a dual carriageway.I noticed that the average consumption was between 39 and 41 mpg.My average speed at the time was about 70/75 mph and using cruise control too.I thought it would have been better than this,I previoulsy had a 115 bhp version which seemed more economical. Any thoughts ????? Paul. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Car details please....petrol?..nah...too high..bet its a 130 diesel?...or maybe a new one? Quote
mumof4 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 If you did 68/69 mph..you will find that the average will shoot up..70 is the magic number.... Ok..its a 130 Ghia 53 plate. i think the numbers you quoted are fine....once you hit over 70mph..i have found that the average drops.. Quote

Guest walz Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Hi Ya, You must have a good Gal, my 03 130 PD is only good for 38 tops on a run!!! I have heard though that if you get them chipped then 90% of them are more ecomonical, you best check that with some of the more Tech people on this forum though. Walz Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 walz your spot on @ that kind of speed i only get around 35-38mpg also Quote
NikpV Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 but yours is an auto gooner which has higher fuel consumption (as indicated by higher co2 emissions ans tax bracket) like ours  Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 i was getting 54mpg last night @ a steady 45mph if i drive the car right i can get very good mpg if you drive it like a nut expect 22 mpg  Quote
NikpV Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 yes sounds about the same as ours  which I've always found odd since the best mpg doesn't seem to be at 55mph Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 if i drive her will most loads off,in econ-mode can get some great consumption just goes mad again, when i go uphill  Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 on my way back Chester the other night, i went the motorway route, only 60miles, filled the tank to the brim just before getting on the motorway - sat dot on 60mph all the way, as soon as i got off the motorway, re-filled to the brim, worked out 45mpg - which is the highest we've ever got - but im wondering if the different pumps have put a false figure in somewhere. Guest Mike 307 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 I too am worried about the fuel consumption of the diesels.there are so many figures quoted in this site correspondence depending on rated horsepower and year.Is there a sigmificant break point for better fuel comsumption when the engine became common rail, and when was this?Is there a table of horse power against year of manufacture?I would like to buy a Galaxy of around 2001 but fear that this may be when the change from normal injection to common rail took place.Your answers would be helpful.Mike 307 Quote
Guest walz Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 Hi everyone, On Saturday morning i will be doing some Motorsport Photography at a race circuit called lydden hill about 15 miles from Dover, then i have to do a Birthday bash in Bristol Saturday night!! I think i will be a sad muppet and set the cruise control at 70 mph both ways and i will see what the MPG is. The round trip should be approx 500 miles so hopefully will be a good test (unless the M25 is its normal standing room only!! :D ) Another question will a full tank do the 500 miles? Answers on a postcard please ^_^ Walz Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 16, 2007 Report Posted January 16, 2007 when i use to op up while, while ago now ^_^ got around 400 mark:( Quote
Guest walz Posted January 17, 2007 Report Posted January 17, 2007 Hi gooner, Its because you are carrying all them electrical shop goodies inside your gal, that's why you only get 400 miles per tank ^_^ Keep smiling Walz Quote
