Which is totally ridiculous. That is certainly a rule that I would ignore...

However, with no spare wheel, this would mean waiting for recovery. If your particular size and type of tyre was not immediately available locally, you would either be forced to accept a different type of tyre or wait until one was available. With a spare wheel, you would have the time to get what you wanted, and probably at a much better price.

I'm not denying that that would be a major pain in the Harris, *if* it happened.

However my MkII never had a puncture, but it was off the road waiting for a new ESP sensor for 2 weeks, and a new cat for 1 week, so maybe I should have carried a spare ESP sensor and a cat? Or any other of the thousands of parts that could go wrong and might not be immediately available. Why single out the tyres?

Oh I forgot to add, although the new car's computer is very snazzy with steering wheel mounted cursors controls, the functionality is seriously reduced from the previous one. Gone are the two independent trip counters, gone is the journey time, and the instant MPG. You do now get estimated miles remaining in the tank, but overall I am disappointed in the new computer. I wonder if they will ever provide firmware upgrades for it? The control system (4 cursor keys and an 'OK' button) appears to be far in advance of what the computer is actually capable of.

I have just purchased an ex demo 2.0 tcdi Galaxy Ghia with 3500 miles on the clock via Ford direct. So far I am really pleased with the car and it is in A1 condition but I have found a few faults that need correcting. The first is the luggage compartment lights do not come on although the dash indicates the luggage compartment door is open. The second problem is the radio is deaf on FM, on the old Galaxy I drive from Bracknell to Slough and usually listen to Heart FM, on the new Galaxy it is not possible, I assume the radio is faulty of the in glass aerial or feeder is damaged or not connected correctly. The rear electrically opening rear quarter windows do not close in the correct position. And finally the long centre roof console rattles.

If anyone has experienced any of these problems I would be interested to hear as I would rather solve them myself where possible.

Sounds like this forum will be going on and on for ever, the new one sounds like its loads better than the old one, but new problems are creeping onto the forum from even the very latest version mkIII, oh well, onwards and upwards, I'll be reading issues on here when I'm 70+, and by then we'll be on Ford Galaxy mkXII with more faults !!

Enjoy your motor and I hope to upgrade to one when my finances permit.

Maybe Fords may improve on the new MKIII and bring out a MK4 with all the little niggles erased and dealt with.I still don't like the look of the MKIII though

It sounds like they still cant rid of the little niggles that the Galaxy has no matter what shape it is...Maybe in time they might get it right and build a Galaxy that is perfect!!.

What i like......i like being able to take the seats out, so quick and easy to do takes me about 5 mins to get them all out, and the same to put them back in.I like the height and i like the overal shape.Really roomy inside. When i looked at a MKIII, there didnt seem to be the same amount of room, yes it is longer and it is shorter.I really did not like the interior of the MKIII,too squared for me.I like the curves of the MKII.But it is the back seats that really put me off. They are awful.Look too flimsy and i think the backs of the seats could be improved upon if they built a MK4 with seats that sunk into the floor.Even though it is an MPV, i dont think even with the amount of room in it, that it is kiddie friendly, what i mean. is kids that are messy and like to kick seats and drop crap on the floor.I like taking my seats out so that i can give it a good clean inside without having to open all doors or climb over seats.

I've had my mkIII for about 3mths now, Overall i am really please with it compared to the MkII I had before. The conveniance of the seats folding flat into the floor are a godsend as I found the boot too small (In both cars) even with the backs of the seats folded down as I have nowhere really to store them, but with my kids they are always losing something for instacne my middle child dropped his pen for his nintendo DS this weekend and found it had dropped into the seat runner. after about an hour i managed to get it out, but with the old MkII once the seats are out it is so easy to clean and find things you may have dropped.

above g4hlf mentioned that his rear quarter windows didnt close properly , I have also have a ghia but do not have these and I thought they were not featured on the new one, was this an option on the car or standard?? and yes my central overhead console also is starting to rattle.

Wazza,

My car was first registered in July and the electrically opening rear quarter windows were an extra option together with the glass roof and heated seats which the Ford demo centre must have requested.

Hi All,

Have not been around the forum for some time. And was curious off the opinions off the new Galaxy.

Love the shape, we have the 2.0tdci Ghia first diesel for us and is very nippy, previously had two 2.3i Zetecs

the last one for 6yrs.

Anyway we are a family of six miss the old seating system used to remove middle seat of middle row to allow

kids easy access to the back. Also had the seat with integrated five point harness and booster seat so gained more floor

space with those. Unfortunately I think there is less space in the rear row, no access to seats from the boot because of the floor panels.

We are both 6ft and still don't seem to reach all controls comfortably in the cockpit, drivers window controls seem badly placed

with the door handle. Has anyone tried to open their rear quarter windows - YOU CAN'T all the electrics are there but no switches,

Just had catches on the Zetec. Maybe that is why they discounted them

Would also suggest shopping packed carefully if you flatten rear row of seats as the 'flaps' angle down towards the tailgate.

Maybe it is just us I should think of it as a totally new car and not a galaxy maybe that is what ford should have done and renamed it.

We have to keep the car for at least a year now

Yep - all ntl:telewest Virgin Media engineers are ruled by this also - have to call out a tyre company to change flat tyres

You mean "all ntl:telewest Virgin Media engineers people are ruled by this also.

I'm a little puzzled about all this stuff about the seats folding into the floor on the Mk3 and being so much better than just folding the seat back down on the Mk1 and Mk2. I would agree if that is all you could do on the Mk1 and Mk2, but it isn't. When I need extra space in mine and the rear seats are in, I remove the head restraints, fold the backrest forward and then tip the whole seat forward - plenty of space then. Last weekend when my wife decided we needed (yet) another tree for the garden, we needed the load bay to be as long as possible - we had the 3 kids with us and the rear seats were in. What we did was remove the LH rear seat and stow it behind the RH rear seat (there is space if you slide the seat forward). We then folded the LH middle row seat right forward - good long loadbay for the tree and still able to seat 5. Excellent.

You don't actually have to remove the head restraints, but the seats tip further forward if you do. By the way, with the seat folded, the head restraint tucks in nicely between the seat cushion and the backrest.

Hello

I am new to this site having been considering the new Galaxy as a purchase. I have to say that a lack of a spare wheel is the major snag at the moment. It seems to me that with no spare, the options of tyre pressure monitoring and run flat tyres will have to be taken up for piece of mind.

I would have hoped that not having a spare made these standard items.

Not posted for a while, I have had my new shape Galaxy 7 months now & all o.k. have done 12,500 miles with no major problems. Although I have had exactly the same problem with the Nintendo DS pen!!!

My overhead console was also rattling, it turned out to be the child rear seat mirror thing.

Not had a puncture so can't comment on the tyre repair kit.

Had a concern about the seats but drivers seems comfy enough even on long journeys. Have had adults in the 3rd row of seats for a few long journeys and they have not complained about anything.

I have the 1.8TDCI & it gives me about the same performance as my old car (Mondeo 2.0TDCI), Fuel economy very good and works out at 44mpg.

Have seen a few more Mk3's out & about now, must say the rear lights look impressive at night & along with the low level rear reflectors make the Mk3 very visible at night.

looking at that third picture, what happened to sixth gear???? ;) :o :o

here we are with fuel prices going through the roof and they go and remove sixth gear, what a stupid idea :o

Well I've had my 56 plate 2.0 TDCI Zetec for a week now and on the whole I'm impressed.

I picked it up on Friday with 1500 miles on the clock - drove 180 miles (mix of motorway and country roads) at - er - lets just say it wanted to cruise significantly above the speed limit - and she returned 44.9mpg. I then toured all around North Devon 6 up, drove back home to Reading - went to work the next day and the overall economy was 42.4mpg and all on 1 tank of fuel.

Now I'm new to diesels and galaxy's - but I think this is very impressive.

The engine is an absolute gem - in 6th gear she pulls like a train, I thought I would have to stir the gear box on some of the hilly roads in Devon but not so.

On the down side:

[*]Dissapointed the rear windows don't open - but might have to take the covers off at the weekend and see whats in there! Also - have had a few drops of rain leak in around the off side one.

[*]Mine has the integrated voice control system with Bluetooth connection to my phone - excellent!!! but it stopped working on the way home from work tonight :-(

[*]The rattle - must be from the over head console - it is only very light but it will be fixed!

[*]the fasteners to hold the floor panels to the back of the rear seats are broken - but the garage have ordered the new magnetic ones and will fit for free :-)

[*]only one 12v accessory socket in the rear and the DVD player's lead is 1cm too short!!!! - will be fitting some more at the weekend.

[*]Why - is the socket for MP3 connectivity in the glovebox ????

[*]No tonneau cover :-( and ford want

Oh dear what have I done?ordered New Galaxy six weeks ago and it turned up at the dealers today. Due to pick it up Saturday am. However a week on saturday travelling to the south of France for 2 weeks about 2500 miles. Only found out today that there is no spare wheel. The thought didnt even occur just assumed there was one. Why Ford Why no spare really concerned any suggestions. Maybe a spacesaer spare for longer trips also considering one of those tyre gel treatments that instantly seals punctures. Time is not on my side however please help.

You do get a tyre repair kit in the Gal. I have just picked up an S_max which is very similar to the new gals, same front of car , dashboard, folding seats etc. There is a tyre repair kit in the floor storage area behind the drivers seat. I had a quick look at it the other day and there is an electric compressor and something to put in the tyre to repair it (some sort of gel I suppose).

Also forgot to mention, I have the 1.8 TDCI engine and think its great. I would have liked the 2.0 but couldn't stretch to that. Seems a lot smoother and faster than my old 1.9 TDCI in my old Mk2 Gal.

Picked up the new gal on saturday.

Initial thoughts is I like it, it was parked next to a mkII at the ford garage and appeared to be lower down and wider. I took it on the motorway and was very quiet. Inside the seats do not seem to be as 'padded' as the MkII but do not see that as a major problem. The fold flat system is easy to use and a lot less cumbersome than trying to haul out the seats. Loads of cubby holes especially in the roof but not that sturdy, panorama roof is a nice touch and am glad I have got it. Overall at the moment I am really pleased with it, the only reservation I have is there is no spare wheel, Im not sure how well the tyre repair kit works and to what extent I will hopefully not find out .

Will post some pics when I get the chance

Don't know if this is stating the obvious but re the daft lack of a spare on the new Galaxy the only way to avoid using the emergency tyre kit is to carry compressor / inflator (about

You don't need to remove the headrest to tilt the seat all the way forward. Slide the seat as far back as possible then tilt it.
