Guest Idris Posted November 28, 2003 Report Posted November 28, 2003 I was wondering if anyone had any experience with aftermarket AUX input adapters. My 99 GhiaX has the 2007R installed which is fine (and I presume has an amp installed as well). I would like to install my MP3 hard disk into the car to give me days of music however I am presuming that the 2007R has no RCA input. I could always install my JVC which does have RCA input, but then I think I will need to do all sorts of messing around with wiring adapters etc... and I will lose the column mounted stalk .. so I was thinking about getting an AUX adapter which apparently plugs into the CD Changer port and gives me RCA input .. my questions : - has anyone used one of these before, and does it remove all CD Changer functionality? - is it too much of a pain to replace the 2007R with my nice JVC? Previous Fords I have tried to install aftermarket heads have always given me grief due to the amp and I dont want to go down that route again. Also presume I would need to get an aerial adapter to pipe the 12V as mentioned on this forum? - numpty question ... are the stereos in Galaxy's bolted in from the rear? I have tried using the "levers" to remove the 2007R to see what connections it has, but the darned thing just wont come out! - finally, regarding the 2007, AM reception is very poor indeed - FM is fine. The normal 2007 we have in the wifes Mondeo gives perfect AM reception, but the one in the Galaxy is terrible. Im sure its not a suppression problem, but Radio5 is unlistenable (is that a word?). Sorry for the daft questions, but I only picked up the car this week (with problems described in the New Member forum) and would like to get the audio sorted sooner rather than later - then I can start installing an old laptop somewhere so that the bairn can watch DVD's :D .... Any help would be most appreciated!! Many thanks for reading ... Quote

You will also require part number MOD01AUX. The interface plugs in-line with your CD changer at the back of the car. This then enables two pairs of RCA inputs to your head unit. To utilise these, you select CD on your head unit, you then push a button (supplied with the FOR04AUX), which selects the 1st input, again for the second input, & again to go back to CD. An LED indicator (again, supplied with FOR04AUX) shows which input is selected. Whilst listening to your aux input, the CDs will still be playing, although you won't hear them. This is simply how the audio input to your head unit is kept open. sounds like a pain to be honest, so may well just install the JVC. Notice that there are harness adapters specifically for the 2007R with amp, so maybe these will work whilst still using the amp and not having to bypass it (which would be preferable) ... Regarding the removal of the old unit - just tried again and still no go. The levers are new, and the unit does seem to unlock as I can move it a couple of millimetres but no more than that. Will try to get to the back of it over the weekend to check to see if it is bolted in. Also need to see if there is anything available that will amplify the AM signal, however my JVC may well work better than the OE unit - heres hoping and thanks for the info .... Quote
Dally Posted November 29, 2003 Report Posted November 29, 2003 Idris I had a 2007 in a previous ford - I found that I really had to pull the U removal tools apart to unlock the unit before it would shift.AM reception in galaxies is accepted as being crap. There is a fix described on the TIS CD -0 it has sometning to do with bad earthing I think. My current galaxy suffers and the dealers will be looking at it. My last galaxy suffered but was put right by the dealers. Quote

As for the AM reception, I should be getting the TIS CD shortly so will take a look at that. The car is back at the dealers on Monday for a few jobs (still cant believe they sold me the car with a coolant leak!) so I may well ask them to sort out the AM reception as well .... thanks again for the info!
