Grumpy Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 This car is beginning to try my patience. Just went out and as soon as I started her up I got a "Please Refuel" message and the gauge was in the red (it had been appox 1/3 on the previous journey). After being parked up, the next time I started her up the gauge was reading at the first division from the red. Now it was parked sideways on to slope (offside to the low side) but I would have thaught that the gauge would have recovered once I started driving it. I had to have a new instrument panel fitted last year so I hope that this isnt the problem again. Any sugestions as to things to chack. PLEASE. Or am I just getting paranoid Tales of woe to date:- "Check Pads" warning - eventually got the supplying dealer to replace the instrumentsSmoking aux heater - not sorted yetSlipping auto box - warranty company had box reconditioned - UPDATE it now has a ubrupt change from 3 - 4Air con panel flashing - not sorted yetKey stuck in ignition - the car was innocent (blame the missus)Fuel gauge inconsistent - just started happening Quote

Grumpy Posted January 7, 2007 Author Report Posted January 7, 2007 If it is a clone of yours then you must be to blame!!!! I'm sure its a great car (at least I keep telling myself that!) Oh well, mines a pint Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Relax, they are all the same! I've got 2 of them and they both do it. If you park on a 1 in 4 slope you can expect errors of 1/4 tank either way. Uphill they read high and vice versa. Unfortunately, when the gauge reads low, you can be effectively "empty" until you get it back on level ground. I've been caught twice coming home after a long day with about 1/4 tank and parked face down on my 1 in 4 drive, next morning - no go, fuel gauge on zero. Push it down to level ground and after an hour or so, back to normal, can take some starting though! Quote
NikpV Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 certainly in our case it used to happen on the flat about 1 out of 3 times when it was cold and there was 3/8 of a tank - tsb (can't remember the number) there was a problem between the sender and the gauge - it took ford over a year to isolate and sort the problem which is why we got a replacement instrument cluster under warranty ay 4 yeas old  Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 mine does the same if i parked her on a slope@ a angle .then drive level after about 5 mins and its fine Quote
Grumpy Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 OK OK, I am paranoid and you are all correct. It seems that it was the slope that was to blame, it seems to be working fine now. Cheers for the replies Quote
gregers Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 my zafy does this BIGTIME its about the only thing i really hate about the car,if i have under a quarter of a tank of fuel and park on a slope(drivers side nearest the kerb)then it drops to empty and the engine will cut out,BEEN CAUGHT A COUPLE OF TIMES NOW :rolleyes:get it back on level ground and its back to quarter again,so moral of the problem is dont let it go down below quarter  Quote
