going back to your original question.......

So.... Can Vag Com be used to up the idle speed to 900 rpm

I couldn't resist having a mess with my '04 130TDI Galaxy today.

I've got a little clutch chatter/gearbox rattle on tickover which irritates me. If I raise the revs slightly the noise went.

I remember adapting an A3 2.0TDI to rectify this and it improved it. Tried the same on my Galaxy today and it worked.

I know you had your alternator replaced which sorted your issue but, I thought "what if?" and had a play.

Below are 2 pics of before and after adjustment with VagCom. I can't guarantee this works on them all but, it does answer your question. Don't know of any long term effects as only done today but, can't see what they would be. Look at the rpm values with the corresponding adaption values to see it can be done (on mine anyway).

Before adjustment..

After adjustment..

N.B. If anybody carries this out you do so at your own risk. Please write down any changed values because, you could render you ecu useless if the values are changed outside manufacturers parameters. I cannot guarantee that it works on every TDI ecu.

I'm gonna have a play with my dash soon to see if I can get the fuel range to work. Little more difficult though, I think.

Thanks for seeing the question through on a curiosity/learning curve basis LD. I've changed my Galaxy today - to an 05 Zetec tdi auto. Would this still occur if the battery was disconnected and re connected later as an ecu reset - or work on engine etc do you think?

Oops - must remember to update my sig before I get a gentle reminder from he who reminds us lot as a pastime

I don't see any reason why it would alter after a battery reset. The adaption channel should stay set. When we are advised to change adaption channels, they are to rectify customer satisfaction issues. If the customer then had a battery change, their original issue would return. I believe it is permanent.

Congrats on the new motor.

It's got 2 issues allready

Parking distance sensors dont work - just a warning beep when activated!

and it feels like it about to run out of fuel sometimes - even with a (now) full tank of diesel

Dealer is 40 miles away and I'm sure it would be easier to go with them on a warranty basis.

aint had time to read up on FAQ's yet - will do later when the rain and wind comes.

I guess nobody believed me, but I have altered the tick over speed on my Mk1. And no I didnt write down the value, because I have the manual for Vag Com. All the procedures and default values are in it. Everything works on my version - think you need to look at TDIclub.com they seem more adventursome... The best mod in my opinion is the Vag com ECR fix with separate breather to eliminate intake oiling / fouling. Read my original reply and the manual as for why it wont help you.

Sorry BD, no slight intended, I just wanted more feedback at the time. It helps to get more than one persons opinion sometimes?

You are correct - always get more than one opinion. Looking at your side thingy, perhaps you remember me from the Pajero club? Went all posh when the Mk1 paj died and I sold it to the cockle pickers. Thought I would buy a nice reliable car to replace it with....
