Guest galaxy99 Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 any ideas whether i could put a vw v5 unit into a galaxy? i used to have a 1983 passat gl5 with the infamous audi 5cylinder the noise they used to make! just wondered if i could fit the golf v5 unit as it's small enough for an average enigine bay size, this is probably off the wall but as gl5's are getting harder to find these days thought this would be easier. comments would be appreciated. thanks galaxy99 Quote

sepulchrave Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 Maybe, the VR5 unit is basically a cut down VR6 and almost certainly fits the same gearbox and electronic systems. I think you might have to mod the engine mounts though. Quote
big_kev Posted January 5, 2007 Report Posted January 5, 2007 the noise they used to make! And who said Galaxy owners were always concerned with Diesel Fuel Economy versus Petrol Perfomance ! Quote
Guest galaxy99 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 thanks guys for the advice. Quote

sepulchrave Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Good answer wolfie, I didn't bother to ask why galaxy99 would want a crippled VR6  If you like the noise, get a VR6, fit a nice ProjectZwo exhaust and a BMC carbon airbox. I guarantee you that it'll sound more like a Porsche Carrera on full chat (won't bloody go like one tho'). Enjoy. ;) Quote

Guest galaxy99 Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 cheers for that. the problem with the vr6 is  A. it must have been designed at the germany's annual beer festival as the timing chains on the wrong end. ;) B. dosen't sound like the old audi 5 cylinder, the v5 does. :) i thought about the v5 becuase an inline 5 is to wide (although volvo made thiers fit in the t5)!
