BrummyGit Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 One of the kids Christmas presents was a hamster which my wife bought on Christmas Eve. Unfortunately we had to wait an hour before trying to sneak it into the house - in which time it had gnawed through the carry box it was sold in and decided to set up home in my Galaxy dashboard. To cut a long story short - it took around 7 hours of dismantling (with the aid of a very, very nice AA man), baiting and trapping to get the little bu**er recaptured by which time it had chewed its way through much of the sound insulation matting and who knows what else because it was wandering around in areas we can't get to. I've started re-assembly and have so far found a couple of problems I need some help with:-The stereo has lost the nearside rear door speaker, but the nearside rear speaker for the 3rd row seats works. Does anyone know where the two split as there is only 1 output from the head unit?Secondly the car has failed to turn over a couple of times when I tried to start - just a turn of the key and the dash lights go out but no starter motor. The battery was probably very low after 7 hours searching with interior lights on and it has only done 1 short journey since so is this simply a flat battery problem or something more serious? It may have happened 1 before the rodent incident but I can't honestly remember. Thanks Steve Quote
mumof4 Posted January 1, 2007 Report Posted January 1, 2007 Oh dear....expensive xmas pressie!!... You may have to start by checking all the wiring..hamsters will chew anything..i know this as i used to have one..bloody thing chewed all the wires in the back of the washing machine. You could try charging the battery..see if that works..if not..is a wiring check..well..its what i would do.. sorry..someone else may be able to help better than i. Quote
BrummyGit Posted January 1, 2007 Author Report Posted January 1, 2007 Checking the wiring is difficult - it was high in the dash in areas I can't get to such as the passenger airbag and behind the heater ducts etc near the pollen filter housing. I'm trying to get hold of a small cctv camera that can see in the dark to check further - but sadly I don't know any stomach surgeons or SAS soldiers. Quote

BrummyGit Posted January 21, 2007 Author Report Posted January 21, 2007 I managed to get a camera with Infra-Red into the dash and it appears that the soundproofing was a nice meal for one, but the wiring (as far as I can tell) has survived intact. Th car is back together and other than a dodgy booster heater (which is another story) it is running fine. Sorry, I've no pictures but just imagine a hamster and a noose close by Quote
