Davetheref Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 is anyone else having problems with ntl tonight its doing my head in kicks me off the internet every 2 mins then its back on again after a minute Nope. I'm with NTL and been having no problems today ( had plenty in the past though). Have you tried calling their support line as they always have a recording on there informing you of local problems. keith9534 Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Ours has been playing up for the last two weeks!!! We were supposed to get a service call yesterday but the engineer didn`t even bother to turn up We have been through to the fault line "take-away" shop...what a waste of time that is..........they insist on going through the same things night after night (even though you tell them that you have tried that, etc)......DONT TELL THAT YOU HAVE A ROUTER AS THATS A GET OUT CLAUSE FOR THEM (as its must be the fault of that bit of equipment!) We have cancelled our contract today...they had the decency to refund this months costs due to their lack of service!!!! The very leats they could do as we have been messed about no end! Quote
broom broom Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 i've had the modem they supply changed more times than i care to remember there customer service is rubbish too ............. i really should change supplier! Quote

Guest Cepheus Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 The network has been erm ... dodgy in a lot of places today. Mainly due to adverse weather conditions, partly due to low network enginer staffing levels over the holiday period! Teresa, your problem could be to do with intermittant noise ingress onto the network (Signal to noise ratio (SNR) should be ideally above 34db but should cause no speed or connection issues as long as it's above 20db) Try typing in http://192.168.100.1/ in your browser address bar. Depending on which type of cable modem you have, this should take you to it's internal diagnostic screens where you can check your individual SNR levels among other things. Might give you some amunition for next time you call into "Customer Services" Alternatively, check out the ntl Service Status Page to see if there are any network outages in your area. Quote
El Dingo Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Try this... http://www.nthellworld.co.uk/home.php Actually, I'm very pleased with my NTL connection when it works, which is near enough always. Some time back we had an intermittent connection - to cut a long story short, it took three NTL customers in my road to write letters before NTL finally came out and fixed equipment in the green box in our street. Three months of hassle, including numerous visits by engineers who did nothing more than add attenuators into the line. The moral of this story is - check with your neighbours. If they have NTL and it works perfectly, maybe the problem is your end. Otherwise, 'phone head office customer care... Good luck! Quote
Guest Cepheus Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Escalate your problems to the Chief Executive's Office. Ask for that department if you're getting nowhere with customer service and it will be sorted. Quote

Guest bigal Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 I have had NTL broadband for a few years now and have hardly ever had a problem. Hope you get it sorted. Most other people i know with other suppliers seem to have loads of problems, especially the ones offering free broadband, so i will stick with NTL for now. :o Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 we are with Freeserve, which changed to Wanadoo, which is now Orange, and the service is excellent, although, if you ever have a problem, their customer support is crap - and im certain its an Indian call centre! MJR Quote

Bigjeeze Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 As some of you may know I work for BT - I have had no problems with my Broadband but then I am on a business package so get faster attention. Surprisingly I agree with Cepheus - the bad weather causes problems with ALL NETWORKS ESPECIALLY THOSE Hmmm... we seem to be having a technical moment - What I was trying to say is that bad weather affects all local loop (cables from the exchange to your houses) regardless of your provider and when the weather is really bad faults have to be prioritised - so essentail services and Business customer get seen to first - so you may have a delay with repair times whilst the bad wether is here. Not a lot you can do. Quote
